Information technology plays an important role in the retail sector and its application is
important in this modern world for the success of a business. The chosen firm for this report is
Marks and Spencer (M&S) which is one of the leading firm in UK and provides the best quality
of products to their customer(Dutta, Geiger and Lanvin, 2015.). It also uses Information
Technology into its workplace to reduce the operational cost. Report will describe the role of IT
in the success and failure of a business and then describe the ethical and social issue for running
the business. Further, it also describes different types of networking technologies and show the
importance of internet and intranet. Further, it also describes the different stages of system
development life cycle.
Describing the role of IT in the success or failure of M&S
Information technology helps to store and retrieve, transmit the information for a
business and it has been analysed that in Marks and Spencer. It helps to provide success of a
business especially in customer service such that earlier, customer have to wait for so long in
order to overcome the problem, company start providing self help kiosk which help a business to
save money and increases the satisfaction of their customer as well. This machine is consider an
