Operation management is defined as managing different roles and responsibilities
associated with the organisation. This report is based on the case study of Marks and Spencer
Company in regards to management of different functional activities in company.
MAIN BODY
Different organisation roles
Different operational roles associated with the organisation structure of Marks and
Spencer Company. On the basis of the requirements entire structure of company is segregated
into different roles such as marketing, fiancé, operation and human resource management.
Marketing: Marketing is among the key operation function associated with the company.
Marketing is all about promoting company’s products and services at all different business
locations associated with the organisation. Marketing team at Marks and Spencer Company
follow the practices like holding, social media, digital platforms, broadcasting and other such
strategies to promote company’s products (Jin and et.al., 2018). All these promotional
strategies improved the scale of business for the organisation. Branding is an important aspect
of any business organisation and marketing and promotions of company directly polishes the
branding of the organisation.
Finance: Finance is another key functional area associated with the organisation. Finance
indicates the management of company’s financial resources. This also involves controlling
the financial requirements associated with the organisation. Marks and Spencer Company
carry an individual finance department in organisation that look at he financial regulations of
company. The department pass individual budget to all the different functional department. It

also controls the investment sections of Marks and Spencer Company. All income are
monitored by this department and all expenses are controlled by the finance department of
company. Financial management is among the crucial functional area that needed to control
by the finance department of company.
Operation: Operation department control different operations of organisation. This
departmet control all different operations such as logistic, maintenance and different other.
Marks and Spencer Company work on both the mediums such as online in e-commerce mode
and off line where company owns its own stores. Operation department need to look at bopth
the modes of trading so that smooth flow of company’s operations can be maintained.
Human resource department: Human resource department control the actions of company
in respect to management of company’s human resources. This department conduct
recruitment, selection of employees for managing the human resource related requirements of
company. This department also conduct talent management operation in which company cope
up with all different fundamental needs such as training and employee development and other
such needs of the employees part of the company (Wang, Huang and Ji, 2017). Human
resources are among the key resources associated with the organisation and managing the
human resource of company play a significant role in the overall growth and development of
organisation.
The above mentioned departments are the crucial and key functional areas associated
with the Marks and Spencer Company. In order to achieve the growth in business company
need to control all these functional areas of organisation.
