BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
PART A: INITIAL STATEMENT OF INTENT
This is a statement of intent which is being prepared by me with the objective of defining the
reasons for undertaking the studies at the Torrens University. In addition to this, this self-
reflection would also cover in detail the analysis of the motivation which is required to
undertake this post-graduation program. This would also be aimed at highlighting my
expectations about the undertaking of this particular course and also ensuring a strong career
path.
I live with my parents who operate their own business activities. My mother is running her own
beauty parlour and my father is an electrician. In my opinion, a business can be stated as the
creation of a defined economic system, where individuals can exchange goods and services in
exchange for a sum of money. The particular activities are being performed with the objective
of earning profits (Peng, 2016).
I have recently decided to take admission in the Torrens University for gaining a master’s
degree in business information systems. I felt that undertaking this course would be beneficial
for me in developing and enhancing my technical, cognitive and creative skills. Gaining
graduation in this stream would also enable me to utilize the skills of decision making and
information technology within my professional career in the future. Therefore, I can sure say
that I have selected this course for becoming an all-rounder by adopting an interdisciplinary
approach for gaining skills (Master of Business Information Systems, 2019).
Previously, I have completed my bachelors in commerce. This has enabled me in gaining
detailed knowledge about the managerial skills which are related to the financing, marketing,
advertising and accountancy among others. While gaining a degree in commerce, I was
successful in developing my interest in undertaking business activities as my professional
career. I could also successfully ensure that the job internship during the bachelor course would

be beneficial in gaining on-field knowledge. For instance, during the internship training, it came
to my knowledge that with the changing business environment and the increasing use of
information technology for managing different tasks, it is very important for me to gain further
knowledge about the information technology systems. Therefore, I have decided to join this
master’s course at Torrens University.
It is expected by me to ensure that I can get skills of critically analyzing the core business
functions and also devising strategies for the accomplishment of the same. I am also looking
forward to learning the skills of the risk management and also the capabilities of managing
complex teams within the organization. I am willing to enhance my cognitive skills to a larger
extent which would provide me with great opportunities of working as a business analyst within
the global business environment.
The details provided by the university stated that this course could be undertaken by me in
various available course durations such as nine months accelerated course, two years full-time
course and also I will have the option of adopting the part-time equivalent course schedule. I
will have to dedicate twelve hours per week for each subject selected. The overall duration of
the studies would range over a 12-week trimester (Master of Business Information Systems,
2019).
I would also focus on preparing a personal time table which would enable me to manage my
studies and also enjoy my personal life. A detailed time table would be focused on assigning
time for studying various subjects in depth and attending the lectures as per the schedule
provided to me by the university. I would also give my full attention to the tests and the exams
conducted by the university at particular time intervals. This would help me in judging the areas
and subjects which require further improvements (Brick et al., 2019). I can, therefore, change
and enhance my time table and plan accordingly for ensuring that I can complete this degree
course with good grades. I would also have my focus on engaging in conversations with the
lecturers and instructors for gaining feedback from them about my performance. This would
also enable me to determine the areas of improvement, which would enable me to become a
better manager for managing business activities.

By undertaking all these measures, I will be in a successful position of accessing my progress for
the completion of this course in a timely manner. I will also be competent enough of regulating
and monitoring my personal progress and also comparing the same with my peers, who might
be my competitors within the professional field. In addition to this, as I am focusing on
obtaining a degree in business information systems, I would have my focus on ensuring that all
the planning activities are being undertaken by me by using the information technology
systems. This would be helpful for me in ensuring that I am capable of applying the knowledge
gained by me through university course can be applied successfully for my routine activities as
well.
Through this course, I would be capable of ensuring that I have gained strong knowledge with
regards to various information technology streams such as systems analysis, business process
management, project execution and control, information system foundation and professional
practices amongst others (Jacques, 2016). The knowledge gained by studying all these subjects
would be highly beneficial in applying to various business situations. This would also provide me
with the skills of information technology required for ensuring smooth business operations.
With the accomplishment of this master’s degree, it is my aim to ensure that the skills and
knowledge required by me for conducting and managing business activities in future are being
efficiently acquired. I wish to get this master’s degree with high grades and accomplish my
established goal. Thus, it can also be said that my decision of doing masters of business
information systems would be fruitful only when I am able to gain knowledge and work with full
dedication. Also, I would be successful in gaining information technology skills which would
help me in undertaking the business activities efficiently in future.
