PERSONAL STATEMENT
Health and social care are the term which related to services provided in hospital setting by
health care workers. Masters in management of health and social care is an interdisciplinary
programme which is focusing enhancing quality of care services by focusing on managerial,
leading and decision-making skills of learners. I am applying for masters in health and social
care because I believe the course will empower my desire of improving and leading care
services. I have gained wide range of skills and knowledge from HND diploma in health and
social care but I feel mastering the course will help me in critical decision making which is major
aspect of providing appropriate patient care. The master’s course provides flexible framework to
attain professional and personal aspirations which demonstrates its suitability for me as presently
I work for National health services which can be managed part time and will not hamper my
further learning. I am interested in this course because my practical learning from NHS reflects
that I lack skills like managing high quality patient care which comprise collaborative working
with patient, communication with multidisciplinary team and emergency decision making.
From masters I hope to attain enquiry, problem solving and blended learning which is the
major aspect of managing independent work. In addition, I hope the course will assist me in
gaining knowledge over collaborative working with multidisciplinary team which is essential
part of providing quality care and understanding person centred needs of care. HND diploma in
health and social care helped me in understanding theoretical concepts according to which I have
knowledge of different drugs and dosage (Heuer and et.al., 2019). Further, I feel academic work
helped me in gaining understanding over incorporating 5 rights of medication when managing
care for one particular patient that is the right patient, the right time, the right dose, the right
route and the right drug (Comeau and et.al., 2019). Also, I feel my understanding over
professional code of conduct of care services that is autonomy, justice, beneficence,
nonmaleficence, integrity and respect will support my masters and future career development.
Thus, in accordance with my course learning and practical experience at NHS, I feel masters
in management of health social care is highly relevant for my future personal and career
development because it aims at improving academic learning over patient centred care. Further, I
feel my future goal is to work for the patients who require attentive care like vulnerable adults,
people suffering of terminal illness and patient with special needs. The knowledge from course
comprise clinical decision making, adolescent and child mental health, leading for quality,

palliative care and prescribing and therapeutics practices (Kennedy, Rea and Rea, 2019).
Therefore, from master’s course I ought to learn about behavioural therapies, social psychology
and ways of inclusion. Hence, I will conclude by stating that the course is suitable for me as
programme team of course focuses on development of transferrable skills which will enhance my
learning over diverse and changing roles in hospital setting for future.
