1PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Overview of the Family relocation project scenario
This report depicts a family relocation case scenario from Maroochydore, on the
Sunshine Coast, Qld to Perth. In order to accomplish the relocation project successfully the
family heads Jeff and Kelly need to arrange and integrate all elements and components together.
The members who will take part in the family relocation project include Jeff, Kelly, their two
children Will and Lexie (aged respectively 7 and 12). Recently Jeff has secured a new
designation of marketing director interstate and this was the only reason for which they have to
move to Perth with entire family.
They are currently living in a rental apartment consists of two bedroom in Maroochydore,
on the Sunshine Coast, Qld and the new apartment that they have secured is a four bedroom
apartment in Perth. The new job of Jeff will be started from 5th February, 2019 and they have to
vacate their current apartment on 20th January, 2018. Apart from this, they can shift to their
newly rented apartment on 27th January, 2019. Therefore, the time in between 20th January,
2018 and on 27th January, 2019 they have to take another house in Perth as rent because they do
not have any relatives in Sunshine Coast. As the school terms in Perth start on 31st January thus,
they have the admission session must be accomplished before that. They are ready to invest an
amount of $15,000 for completing this project on the other hand the total time estimated to
complete this relocation project is approximately 12 months.
2. The criteria and assumptions developed to prepare the project milestones
The success criteria and the assumptions for this particular project are enlisted in the
below section:
Document Page
2PROJECT MANAGEMENT
2.1 Project success criteria
The success criteria chosen for this project are listed below:
The complete family relocation project needs to be accomplished within the
predictable budget of $15,000 (maximum possible investment from Jeff and
Kelly)
They have to vacate the current apartment on 20th January, 2018 and they can start
living in the newly rented apartment on 27th January, 2019, thus between this 1
year they have to take another apartment as rent in Sunshine Coast, Qld
The in between house rent budget is not included to $15,000
The rented house must have nearby healthcare center and pet care nursing home
also (because they also have a dog named Buddy)
Apart from the house they have to hire garage to park two of their personal cars
The entire project requires being finished within the allotted time
2.2 Project assumptions
There are certain assumptions considered for accomplishing this specific project “family
relocation to Perth”.
Assumption 1: The time between 20th January, 2018 and 27th January, 2019
another apartment will be taken as rent in Sunshine Coast because their children
school and Jeff’s current job is in Sunshine Coast.
Assumption 2: The expected cost estimated for the project is $15,000

3PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Assumption 3: The responsibility of the assigned project manager and the
members are to accomplish the activities successfully following all elements and
factors
3. The milestone plan (details refer to appendix 1)
3.1 Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
In order to reduce the work pressure from family members and other associates it is
mandatory to subdivide the entire large project into small segments. For each segment different
resources are assigned and as soon as they will be assigned it will become their responsibility to
accomplish the allotted roles and responsibilities with the preliminarily assumed budget and
time. The details work breakdown structure is listed in the below section:

4. List of project tasks (details refer to appendix 2)
The list of tasks taken for the Work Breakdown Structure are elaborated in the appendix
section including the duration, start date, finish date, respective predecessors, resources and cost.
5. A Gantt chart for the project (details refer to appendix 3)
In order to accomplish the project successfully within estimated budget of $15,000, it is
mandatory for the project manager/ project consultant to divide the total task in small segments.
The initial activity segmentation defines that the project would be completed in 65 days however
after incorporating the concept of lead time and lag time to the project the project will come to an
end after 47 days from its commence. After crashing the project t is determined that the total
time estimated for the project will be reduced from 65 days to 47 days.
6. Details of all the adjustments done in the rescheduled project
6.1 Justification
The project plan is assumed to be completed in 65 days however, some of the project
activities needed to be started earlier than the current situation. Keeping the total project budget
similar some activities are adjusted to make them initiate a little before. In usual case when a
previous task finished the very next activity get started. On the other hand, some instances are
there which shows that before the completion of the previous activity the next activity is started.
Among the concept of project lean time and lag time, in this specific case lead time is
approached. The activity (1.2) Estimation of all possible cost (including the between rent) will
take 8 days to complete and the (1.3) feasibility study of the project take 5 days. As the (1.2)
Document Page
6PROJECT MANAGEMENT
activity completes in 3 days the very next activity should be started to make the project much
effective. The first activity still has (8-3=5 days). This scenario can be described as lead time is 5
days in other words, finish to start task has a 5 days leading time. The below are activities which
shows that 1.3, 3.3 and 2.3 and 3.4 are respectively leading and lagging time. The times are
crashed and reduced but the net cost is remaining unchanged.

The updated duration defines that the total time allowed for the entire project will be
reduced from 65 days to 47 days. It means that the project will be completed earlier than the
initial estimation. As a result Jeff and Kelly will get additional time to arrange the needful.
7. Personal reflection
After analyzing the details project case scenario it has been determined that, project
manager and the assigned project team members need to take possible actions for accomplishing
the project successfully within whatever budget and time have been estimated. I think that, based
on project assumptions and outline the project manager should follow the project development
phases. However, there is some knowledge areas such risk management, communication
management, procurement management, time and cost management must be analyzed before
targeting the audiences. Not only this but also, proper communication approach are also required
to be considered by the project head to take effective decision. Apart from that, I think that
developing a WBS is also mandatory to divide and make a large project easier.
