1. Johnson and Johnson Learning Journal Reflections
1.1. Type of Organizational Structure of Johnson and Johnson
Like most other multinational companies in the world, Johnson and Johnson is a
company that had formed a functional structure in the initial days of its operation. When the
company became global in its scope and outreach, and became engaged in the production of
complex productions, a divisional organizational structure was formed for the purpose of
better coordination and control. The Johnson and Johnson organizational structure comprises
of 180 exclusive operating units. The decentralized organizational structure followed by
Johnson and Johnson is one that gives employees plenty of scope to grow and develop within
the company, while encouraging innovative practices and innovative thinking at the same
time.
1.2. Understanding how Johnson and Johnson Balances Globalization with
Local Focus when Required
Johnson and Johnson balances its global operations with a local focus by recruiting local
people to the management of all of its branch offices in different parts of the world. In Japan
for instance, the company’s operations are carried out by Japanese personnel, all of whom are
familiar with local practices, customs and culture and who can employ the local Japanese
employees of the Johnson and Johnson Company far better than the company’s core
management team in the USA.
1.3. Understanding How Johnson and Johnson Promotes Consistent Ethical
Behavior across its Autonomous Operating Units in Different
Countries

Johnson and Johnson aspires to the highest levels of integrity and standards in its
operations in different countries. It follows all laws and regulations that are concerned with
the sales, the marketing as well as the promotion of all of its products and ensures that the
statements that are released by the company in the public domain are truthful and transparent
in nature. The ethical operations that are conducted by Johnson and Johnson are those which
also extend to all third parties. Background checks and diligence checks are carried out on a

complying with the company’s policies and standards`.
2. DIEP Reflection 1
2.1. Description
As a part of the program on organizational behavior and management, I took part in a
self-assessment that tested whether or not I was an empowered person. I also learnt about ten
important leadership theories including the Greatman leadership theory. I also took part in
self assessments that judged whether I am person who has leadership potential or not, learnt
about the power of presence in an organization by watching videos on this topic and also
watched videos that taught me all about the politics of management in a business
organization.
2.2. Interpretation
The videos that I watched on the power of presence and politics of management and
the leadership theories that I studied, informed me a great deal, about how leaders in a
business environment are expected to conduct themselves if they are to be effective when
implementing strategies and plans. Leaders and managers are expected to resolve conflicts as

soon as these arise. Leaders need to focus on looking into the well-being of their followers
instead of only letting them follow them blindly. Leaders can bring about change and
transformation in business as well as in the lives of those who follow them by caring about
their wellbeing and doing everything that they can to ensure it.
2.3. Evaluation
The politics of management and the power of presence as made clear through the
videos that I watched, reveal that managers and business leaders need to be progressive and
open ended in their outlook if they want to encourage change and innovation to take place in
business organizations. The self assessment tests that I took part in that tested my
empowerment and leadership potentials revealed that I do have the capacity to lead groups of
people and that innovative thinking and action is something that I am highly inclined
towards, all of which can go into making me an effective leader in a globalized business
environment.
2.4. Plan
I firmly believe that the results of the self assessment quizzes on leadership and the
empowerment, together the things that I learnt about leadership is all about in an global
business by watching videos on the power of presence and politics of management in
business settings will also help me be an effective leaders in a global business setting. I know
that as a manger and leader in a global business setting I need to address and encourage
innovation, be sensitive to cultural diversity and get those working under me to operate in
teams and groups for the purpose of collaboration rather than working in isolation.

3. DIEP Reflection 2
3.1. Description
By being a part of the program on organizational behavior and management, I had to
fill out self-assessment questionnaires on how cohesive my group is and how much diversity
there is in the team that I am a part of. I also watched videos on the leadership of the Titans,
on the differences between teaming and teams, and also took part in lectures and watched
videos on teams and decision-making. I also filled out self-assessment questionnaires on the
side of the brain that is favored by me, whether I am capable of emotion based decision
making or not and also attended a seminar on how to manage teams and make decisions.
3.2. Interpretation
What I got to learn by being a part of the seminar and by watching the videos on
leadership is basically all about teams function as a unit. I learnt that groups are a collective
of individuals who are united by a common goal and that groups need to learn to work
together with other groups as a team in order to contribute effectively to the progress of a
business organization. Leaders need to organize teams and encourage them to collaborate and
work well with each other in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the business
enterprise.
3.3. Evaluation
I definitely agree with most of the things that I learnt about team-work. I do believe
that teams need to cooperate and work collectively in a unified manner if business goals and
objectives are to be achieved in the best possible way. The self assessment questionnaires that
to filled out on emotion based decision making as well as group cohesion and group diversity,
revealed that I value cohesiveness and diversity in groups and that I am not a person who
likely to make business decisions based on my emotions.

All my learning concerning team-work and decision making as well as the results of
