AI Summary
This assignment presents a comprehensive analysis of McDonald's business operations, focusing on the identification and resolution of operational bottlenecks. The student, through the application of systems thinking and the theory of constraints, examines various aspects of McDonald's workflow, including staff management, business goal alignment, and service delivery. The analysis identifies key limitations, such as congestion in the production process and inefficiencies in self-service systems, which impact productivity, costs, and customer satisfaction. The student proposes alternative solutions, including restructuring organizational goals, staff training, and improved communication across franchises, and recommends a step-by-step implementation plan based on the theory of constraints to address the identified challenges. The assignment highlights the importance of understanding system connections and applying comprehensive problem-solving techniques to improve business performance.

Student Full Name: Student Number: _____________________
Pitch Number/ Week: __________ Case Study Title: McDonald’s Bottleneck Overall Mark: ______/6.5%
Key Facts of the Case:
After analyzing McDonald's Business Scenery, it was found that there are many key factors
present in the organization that prevent this organization from functioning.
Business Strategy.
McDonald's Organization Business Process Analysis showed that this organization wants
every franchise of it’s to follow similar strategies and consistency.
Initial the Organization started with a very small menu that included two burger, fries,
drinks and this was completely an original concept.
McDonald's is the first and best fast food chain in America.
Customer Satisfaction and Better Service Time is the primary mission of the McDonald's
Organization.
Since 2007, McDonald's menu cards have shown 70% growth.
After analyzing the business process of McDonald’s it is found that self-service introduced
by McDonald's is not so successful that it can improve their business growth.
Maybe McDonald's self-service is not as good, but while considering the business strategy
of McDonald's, customers can now customize their dishes, and that is very important to this
company because one of values of this company is customer satisfaction.
Management Problem
McDonald's Working Process Analysis shows that the management of McDonald’s has
shown significant negligence towards the process of work flow management.
Since McDonald's management team has not been able to make the process effectively,
this organization has faced significant limitations like Bottleneck (Blench 2016).
Being one of the largest American food supply chains, this organization wants them to be
able to satisfy their customer very well and for them every second is very important.
Considering the Primary Objective of McDonald’s it has been realized that they always
wanted to deliver good production, but their management team was not that much
effective so they faced limitations like Bottleneck.
Key Players:
After analysing the case scenario of McDonald, it is noticed that the service process of this
organization includes the followings:
Staffs of the organization.

Management team of the organization.
Customers of McDonald.
Owner of McDonald.
Causes & Considerations:
Followed by the above analysis it is noticed that one of the primary limitations present
in the organizational scenario is caused be bottlenecking. While analysing this concern it is
observed that the bottlenecking is nothing but a point in which the production system of an
organization gets disrupted due to congestion (Bremner & Eisenhardt 2019).
In the operational activities of McDonald it is very much prominent that the
management of the nominated organization has primarily intended to speed up their
productions with the purpose to satisfy their customers. However, due to the sudden increment
of workflow the organization has faced congestion in their production process which has
majorly impacted their productivity cost as well as the speed of their productivity services
(Gundogar, Sari & Kokcam 2016).
Supporting Theory:
According to the theory of constrains, bottlenecking is such types of limitations that
restricts the resources of the organization which directly impacts the organizational operations
to enhance their production and make money. Followed by these considerations is can be
stated that due to the occurrence of bottleneck the organization has faced several limitations
such as increment of productivity cost and slow production rate (Lee-Post 2019).
Theory for your analytical lens:
While analysing the business operations of McDonald the system thinking theory has
been used which has helped to analyse the current situation of the business. After analysing
the business scenario of this organization it is noticed that the primary limitation present in the
organization is related to the limitations of delivering the expected output for their customer.
The concept of system thinking has helped to gather the information as it has helped to
analyse the input resources, connection between the operational activities as the expected
output (Ning et al., 2019).
Theory for problem solving techniques:
While analysing the business process of McDonalds it is noticed that theory of
constraints is such types of the method that is very much effective in identifying the factor
present in a business. Especially, the theory of constraints is highly applicable for the situations
like bottlenecking as this theory effectively helps to improve the situation. Thus, by using the
nominated theory it will be very easy to solve the identified business problems (Urban &
Rogowska 2018).
Alternative Solutions:
After analysing the business scenario of McDonalds by using the theory of constraints
several significant limitations has been identified which includes lack of engagement of

company management, sudden change in the company operations, decreasing profit of the
organization, increasing productivity of the organization as well as the lack of staff
management of the organization (Knopv 2019).
In order to solve these problems it will be very effective to restructure the goal of the
organization. Along with this is will be also very effective to educate the staffs present in the
organization about the approached business structure. Communication with all of the
franchises of McDonald will help to improve their business growth. Apart from the above
mentioned aspect it is noticed that restricting the staff management for the company will help
to improve the business services of the organization (WOLNIAK, SKOTNICKA-ZASADZIEN &
ZASADZIEN 2017).
Recommended Solution(s) and its implementation:
In order to implement the above mentioned strategies the below steps should be followed-
Determine the constraint
Exploit the limitation.
Synchronize and subservient the constraints.
Hoist the performance off the limitations.
Review the procedure.
Key Points to Address in Pitch:
1. Detailed elaboration of the business scenario of McDonald.
2. Elaborations of the identified limitations present in the business scenario of McDonald.
3. Discussion on the need for analysing the business scenario of McDonald.
4. Application of system thinking concept with the purpose to analyse the connection and
links between the elements of the business.
5. In order to eliminate the identified risk there is a huge necessity to implement the
above discussed strategies.
You’re Pitch:
After completion of the group discussion it is noticed that McDonald has several
limitations related to its staff management, business goal management as well as the business
service management. Considering these aspects it is noticed that the organization required
effective strategies to eliminate the identified threats by using the theory of constraints.
Followed by the analysis of the above discussion it is noticed that this theory will help to get a
detailed idea about the business limitations and the reasons behind those limitations as well.
