Speaker in the file:
(0-30 secs) My fellow classmates, respected professors, and everybody watching this, I
feel the need to bring forth an issue that needs to be addressed today, more than ever before.
It is about the health issues related to meat consumption, affecting people of all ages. Before
proceeding however, I would like to clarify that I do not encourage a purely vegetarian diet.
What I intend to deliver through this speech, is the need to know the consequences of
excessive consumption of meat.
(31-60 secs) It might not be an unknown fact to you that the World Health Organization has
deemed the consumption of meat as “carcinogenic”. It involves all sorts of meat from beef to
pork, and yes, chicken as well. It has categorized the consumption of red meat as a group 1
element in causing cancer, implying that research and studies have proven to indicate that the
consumption of red meat indeed causes cancer. It is also not a very unknown fact that meat
contains high levels of saturated fats and cholesterol, which are two of the most critical
elements in causing heart diseases, increased levels of diabetes, and cerebral attacks amongst
a vast range of other issues.
(61-100 secs) The American Diabetes Association in their study suggested that meat
consumers stand a 22% higher risk of developing diabetes, than people who do not consume
meat. In addition, we also have a clear idea that excessive meat consumption causes a heavier
body weight, which in turn can take a toll on blood pressure and other cardiovascular
functions. However, that could be the least scariest thought amongst the other facts that we
are going to address today. Moving towards a more gender specific aspect of this discussion,
meat consumption has also been linked to erectile dysfunction in men. The American Journal
of Clinical Nutrition suggests that men who consume meat daily, without proper exercises,
bear a 20% risk of developing erectile dysfunction.

(101-140 secs) Another fact in this never-ending list, is that meat consumption might
make you resistant to antibiotics. This is because a lot animals in the farms are injected and
fed with antibiotics in an attempt to keep them healthy. Now, when you consume that animal,
your body is adulterated by those antibiotic elements, making you slightly resistant to
absorbing antibiotic medicines when you would need them. This works in a kind of a similar
way how like charges repel each other. You might want to consider this the next time you
catch cold!
(141-180 secs) Last but certainly not the least in this list of reasons why meat
consumption is harmful, is related to unnatural hormones. To make dairy animals grow faster,
they are injected with artificial hormones. These are extremely dangerous to consume for
humans. The consequences can be as severe as death. Is it not grotesque to even think about
consuming animal hormones everyday? If that was not enough, we should think about
consuming the naturally occurring animal hormones themselves. We do that every time we
consume the meat of an animal, whether those are growth hormones, or sex hormones.
(181-240 secs) Doctors are of the opinion that these hormones can affect the health of
individuals consuming them. My dear audience, I would once again like to state that I do not
intend on encouraging a fully vegan diet. However, I truly hope that this speech, loaded with
facts, was able to persuade you as to why it is important for us to be conscious about the
levels of meat consumption we commit on every given day. Let us stay healthy alongside
fulfilling our protein needs, and may our desire for food not be the reason for our deaths.
With that, I conclude my speech. Thank you!
