INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of this article is to analyse the role of media in creating perception of
the people. Media plays an important role in shaping the peoples mind it can quickly change the
way in which people thinks (Mass media, 2019). Usually media does not cover persons with
disabilities but when they cover they are negatively stereotyped means that they does not present
the information appropriately (Riff & et.al., 2019). The media can help in creating awareness
among individual and should pass them correct information. They should try to demonstrate that
disable persons are the part of human community and should change the perception of people.
Summary of article
The article is based on a boy with mental disability who has been discharged from Kings
regional rehab centre within the week of notice. The parents were told that the centre is not able
to take care of the boy and he has been released. The mother of a boy is quite worried as she says
that her child will not be able to come to the house and he also deserves the right to live in home
like any other.
Example
A person advocates for the people with disabilities says that person with such disabilities
are risk to the community and such person are described as a vulnerable. The image of the people
with disabilities has been wrongly presented in the society.
Media should try to avoid demonstrating such type of negative comments. Though it the
duty of media to present all relevant information both negative and positive but in such sensitive
cases they should spread correct information (Social media for social good, 2014). The media
should not try to create a fear among societies for person with mental disabilities.
Word:
Stereotypes use the words disable for such person which is not correct as they might be
inefficient to do the work in the way others perform.
Reflect
In my point of view this article might increase awareness in people regarding protection
of the people with disabilities as from the article it can be seen that how rehabilitation centre has
discharged the boy with mental disability without taking consent of his family members. The
people including various his parents and other people were quite upset with the actions or step

taken by the rehabilitation centre. The article will create a negative impact on people's mind on
the conception of rehabilitation centre. As it is one of the trusted place where people send their
relatives in order to improve their health physical as well as mental but this article creates a
negative impact of rehabilitation centre which might be a question of concern (Turcotte & et.al.,
2015). I will now try to socialise with persons with disabilities. I will be respectful towards them.
Recommendation
As it can be seen that the whole article is creating the boy with disabilities a target but is
not focusing on that what procedures might be used by the rehabilitation centre as well as family
members in order to protect the right of person with disabilities. In my point of view author
should try to lay emphasis on the rehabilitation centre procedure in a evaluation process by
comparing what might they need to done and what they have done which helps people to create
more clear image of peoples right with disabilities (Katz, Lazarsfeld & Roper, 2017).
Conclusion
From the study it has been found that media can play an important role in creating
negative as well as positive image of any matter. Thus media should try to spread right
information which will help people to become aware of their rights and right of others.
