Medical surgical orthopaedic practice setting:
Medical surgical orthopaedic practice setting is a major clinical setting that focuses on
musculoskeletal disease and disorders. The musculoskeletal disease includes arthritis, bone
fracture, joint replacement, and a broken bone (Lau et al.,2017). The health professionals in this
setting are familiar with traction, mobility device, and pain management and they also assist the
patient in postoperative recovery (Loo & North, 2016).
Informatics in the clinical practice:
Since most of the medical-surgical clinical setting are experiencing an overload of
different kinds of information’s, the informatics is crucial for managing health care system by
reducing the possibility of medical error. Using healthcare informatics health professionals’
orthopaedic clinical gain greater access to the information related to the musculoskeletal diseases
such as digital imaging, electronic presentation (Lau et al.,2017) . It also serves the purpose for
the documentation of the patients with musculoskeletal disease such as arthritis, osteoporosis,
computer-assisted preoperative planning, and orthopaedic surgery. The orthopaedic informatics
also required for improving quality of surgeries by giving access to the recent evidence-based
practice (Hsu, Chang & Lai, 2016). Another role of the informatics in the surgical orthopaedic
setting is that it helped in computer-based diagnosis of the patients who are experiencing broken
bone or arthritis and enable health professionals to gain a deep understanding of patient’s need
(Joskowicz, 2018). One of such informatics is EPIC which used in every task of practice.

EPIC in quality and safety management:
EPIC is one of the largest providers of the health information technology accessed by the
hospital. It helps physicians to thrive by screening each operative system, workflow, and analysis
of patient’s requirement to support the clinical practice to the wild better outcome (Mellema et
al., 2017). It is recognized as one of the best electronic medical records for physicians to gain
information of the patient regarding musculoskeletal disease and interventions that are in current
practice. the applications support function such as registration and documentation and hosted
solutions for the customers who do not wish to maintain the service of their provider that ensure
the quality of the project (Krasowski et al., 2016). It also provides project safety and safety of the
patient by keeping patient record personal with a password.
