Medicare access and CHIP reauthorization Act (MACRA)
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) is a recent healthcare
legislation passed in 2015 to reform the reimbursing of clinicians who have displayed their
high performance in the care of the patient. The main aim of the policy was to reform the
payment of participating providers which could be based upon the effectiveness and quality
of the care that is provided to the patient.
The implementation of the policy, MACRA has been more economically feasible for
the United States Government than the EHR initiative. It is because of this implementation,
that the physicians find it easier to report about the progress of the medical condition of their
patient. There is a considerable shift in the practice of providing care to individuals and
increase the health outcome of the patient.
The impact of the policy has been observed in clinical review of coding,
reimbursement claims, and development of further policy and pre-authorizations of treatment
for patients. New roles for Medicare providers have been affected by the implementation of
the policy in the United States (Clough & McClellan, 2016). The reporting workflow of the
medical records of the patients in the hospital have been considerably affected by the
implementation of this policy.
For the appropriate implementation of the policy into the organization, policies like
the exclusion of physicians treating at least 100 patients per year are mandated (Rosenkrantz
et al., 2017). It is because of this reason that highly professional and experienced medical
professionals are under the scanner of the program to increase the efficiency of the healthcare
delivery system.
