INTRODUCTION
Medicines plays important role in health care setting. It helps persons in improving
health. Medical practitioner should be very careful when prescribing the medicines to patients.
As this activity involves a lot of risk to patient health. Medical staff should be aware about the
imp[act of the medicines and required to provide complete details about the usage of medicines
to patients. As this activity will help in preventing medical errors.
The objectives of this project is to support medical team in health and social care setting
in developing about supporting use of medication .It also emphasizes on the several legislations
related to health care practices.
TASK 1
P 1 Present Policies as well as regulation related to the usage of medication in social care setting.
There are several legislations which are formed by government in order to regulate as
well as govern the use of medicine in health and social care setting. Few acts related to health
and special care setting restrict the usage of special medicines which have adverse effect on the
human health. Overconsumption of such kind of medicines can lead event to patient death. Some
norms related to usage of medicine in health and social care setting are:
Medicine Act 1968- This legislation are applicable to sales , supply , licensing as well as
manufacturing of medicines. Medicine act provides the method of disposing medicine. It also
states the medicines can only be prescribed to patient by practitioner or expert or by qualified
person such as a doctor. According to this act , medical practitioner are required to undergo
various types of training after which an individual can prescribed medicine to patient.
Misuse Drug Act 1971 -This legislation has been developed by legal authoring for controlling
usage of possibly harmful drug. These legislations provide the method or way of preserving as
well as using the medicines. It provides the appropriate guidance which precise the specific time
period up to which particular drug can be consumed after which medicine get expired.
Health Act-This law provides several monitoring preparation for controlling the utilisation of
some special kind of medication.
Misuse of Drugs Safe Custody Regulations 2007-This law or regulation is related to handling,
storing as well as documenting controlled medicine (Henderson and Henderson, PrimeWellness,
2015)

The significant as well as major role of medical staff is to gather important information
about the patient mental as well as physical health and also related to patient medical history. As
this activity will assist medical team in determining the types of medicines or treatment required
by an individual. Medical professional are responsible for the medicines or treatment provided
by them to patient. Roles as well as responsibility of pharmacist is to stores as well as dispose the
medicines according to the guidelines provided in the legislations. Function of social care worker
is to render advice and provide treatment for any minor illnesses or health concerns. It is the
duty of medical professional to ensure that all the medicines are properly labelled with the proper
instructions of them (Grasso,2016)
TASK 3
P3 Administration of medicines in health and social care setting
New candidate or employee in hospital should be provided with appropriate training
which should cover several aspects such as storage, supply and disposition of medicines ,
quality assurance , administration of medication , and documenting the record of medicines
prescribed to patients. Care assistants should understand process as well as policies for reporting
any error in the administration of medicines. Such process will usually include reporting the
incident to line manager or in charge of the setting. It is required by trainer to illustrate some of
the common problems related to administration of medicine. As this will help new candidate in
eliminating medical error.
The common causes of medical error are incorrect crushing of medication,
ineffective supervision of the consumption medication, especially for patients with
dementia,and incorrect timing measured medicin being over one hour early or late.
Medical staff has identified these areas for improvement with the help of Medication
administration Record chart and has immediately ban the usage of medicine (Gunningham and
Sinclair, 2014)

P4 Methods by which medicines can be Administered
The basic requirement for administering drug is it is needed by medical staff to ensure
that a person has depth knowledge about the medicine prescribed. The medical professional can
administered medicine by reading or observing the label on the medicine or container and
reviewing the name of patient as well as identifying the health status before prescribing
medicine. It is necessary for manager in social care home to make training preparation for
agency workers, so that they can easily administer drug. MAR chart can be used by medical
staff for ensuring that all the Medicines needed at that time of day are administered .
P5 Different Formats medicines can be presented
The different formats by which the different medicines can be presented includes in form
of tablets , capsules, oral mixtures, ointment , cream , inserting drops for ear , eyes or nose,
injection in case if patient face difficulty in consuming drug orally , and administering inhaled
medicines. Other invasive as well as specialised techniques can be used for administrating as
well as controlling the flow of drugs in human body.
P 6 different equipment used for medication administration
The some equipment that can be used for administrating the drugs are catheters as well
as syringe. Patient care technologies of interest to medical staff in health and social care setting
range from relatively simple to complex devices. Electronic health care records as well as
barcode medication administration systems can be used for administrating process. As these
techniques assist medical team in keeping the records , maintaining the documents in organised
as well as systematic way. So the information can easily be available at the time of requirement.
It also supports medical staff in maintaining their focus on care giving as well as on promoting
the health of patient. Some of the technologies are used for facilitating communication between
medical profession , staff and patient family which further reduces the chances of medical error.

P7 significance of accurate recording of information in Health and social care setting.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council has stated that effective as well as systematic record
keeping is an integral part of medical practice and necessary to the provision of safe as well as
effective care. The record keeping is the important function which assist medical staff in
providing appropriate care as well as treatment to patient. It also aids medical team in

minimising the chance of medical error. Record keeping activity supporting delivery and
continuity of patient care. Due to lack of information can lead to delay in treatment or
medication which can further results into patient death. Record keeping also supports medical
professional in making quick decision related to treatment that are to be provided to patient. It
also helps in improving accountability and can be kept as evidence for legal purpose.

P 8 Identifying storage errors
The purpose Of CQC act is to ensure that premises where care as well as treatment are
delivered and medicines is stores are clean, suitable for the purpose, maintained and where
required, suitably located, and that the equipment that is used to deliver care and treatment is
clean, suitable for the intended purpose, maintained, stored securely and utilised properly.
Medical staff is accountable for delegating duties as well as responsibilities through agreements
or contracts. CQC cannot defend for a breach of this regulation
P 9 Identifying the need of control in health and social care setting
The control is necessary in order to prevent medical errors as well as legal obligations.
The another importance of control is that to prevent patient from the infectious disease or risk of
death. Control function also helps management team in improving as well as maintaining thr
quality of services. It also aids manager in identifying the need of improvement and ensuring the
effective health care practices. Control activity is also essential in order to ensure health as well
as safety of employees and workers in hospital environment (Dubel and et. al., 2014)
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the report that medicines' administration requires special
attentions. The project has highlighted the roles as well as responsibility of medical staff in terms
of medicine administrations. Assignment has successfully demonstrated the need of strict
control in health and social care setting. It has been identified from the study ,the several
legislations as well as regulation formed by the government for health and social care helps in
improving quality OF services and also aids in reducing the chances of medical error.
