Master Research Project: Designing Melbourne Airport’s Fourth Runway

This research project focuses on designing the fourth runway for Melbourne Airport, addressing the increasing air traffic and the need for expanded facilities. The design considerations include runway length, width, strength, and configuration, adhering to ICAO and CASA standards. The project identifies the critical aircraft, determines the required runway length based on takeoff performance charts and meteorological conditions, and proposes a runway location and orientation. It also covers runway pavement design, obstacle limitation surfaces, and parallel runway configurations, culminating in a proposed runway layout that aligns with the Melbourne Airport Master Plan. The study uses statistical data and references from CASA, BARA, and the Melbourne Airport Master Plan to provide a comprehensive analysis and design proposal.
