INTRODUCTION
Strategic Information System (SIS) are basically a software system that allows Corporate
Business to deliver efficient goods and services into the market. This can be determined as one
of the important features that enables organization to enhance the operations and efficiency of
the company. SIS develops a connection between the demands and supply of the organization
using IT tools and Tactics. The study will be based on the education industry namely University
of Melbourne. The report will be able to develop a better SIS network in order to improve the
business performance. It will also help in creating different strategies to implement new
information technology that will access the critical success factors of the company.
This study will also establish problems that are associated with the existing System and
also steps taken to improve the new improved system Within university. It will also help in
describing the significance of various advanced technologies such as MRP, MRPII and EDI.
This research will provide Entity Diagram and Data flow Diagram for the current system. It will
also discuss the security risks and data beaches which supports the accounting feature of new
system.
1. Primary Objectives and critical success factors of company
Information Literacy can be considered as a sustaining force of a knowledge society. It
mainly empowers the individuals in all the walks of life in order to seek, evaluate and create
information effectively to achieve educational goals (Barton and et.al., 2016). So, there is a need
to develop a strategic change in the education system by increasing the use of Information and
communication technology (ICT). Recent analysis of the Management and Communication
technology within Melbourne University of Australia suggests that there is only limited strategic
thinking. So, there is a need to promote a better communication technology that guides the
learners and suppliers of educational system.
However, the actual technology-mediated education in Melbourne University is driven
more by the available technologies which basically do not relay on the actual learner needs, good
management principles and wider national imperatives. This Article reports and analysis the
conversation with more than 10 international educators of the world. All the international
educators are mainly managing the impacts of technology in different ways and also at different
levels such as pre-primary to senior students who are mainly intended to learn new concepts.

Critical success factors of development of Strategic Information system within
University campus helps in addressing all such issues and concerns which are considered while
improving the existing Information system of the university (Laudon and Laudon, 2016). Such
success factors are:
The implementation of iGov Plan which is mainly aimed at establishing the overall
context and guideline. This plan helps to invest in Government Information and Communication
Technology (ICT). This success factor mainly sets out to address the issues associated with
ministries and their supporting donors who supports the inefficient applications within
Melbourne University.
 Development of the strategic framework for the development and Management of ICT
architecture and service within university.
 Establishment of this principle of developing an iGov Plan includes various operations.
These includes Partnership -based, Result Oriented Standard, efficiency, transparency
and integrated strategy approach. This success factor can be achieved by database
requirement, drivers, preferred database environment, DBMS, Connectivity and reporting
and analysis Tools
 A large amount of useful information is collected in order to allocate the resources which
need to be properly circulated to higher management authority (Nobl, 2017). The success
factor about the need to change the information Management system in order to
strengthen the efficiency of educational system within university.
 The VEIMIS Business Process review is also one of the success factors that need to be
developed within Melbourne university that derives the change in the education system of
the campus. This Success factor will determine the situational analysis of the information
Management in relation to educational system of university. The development of the
Policy draws the main focus towards the development of coherent set of educational

Information Strategy, Information technology strategy, Information Management, Change
Management.

employing proper courses which can be promoted by the development proper portals and
internal web pages to communicate with different departments of the university. Inappropriate policy: Creation of the policy leads to the development of strategies as it

So various strategies are built in the university that are aimed at development and
maintenance of IT system that overcome the issues of the existing system. Various alterations

and changes adopted in order to resolve the issues of existing Information technology within
university are as follows:
 ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning): In order to resolve the marketing issue of the
Melbourne University, Executive and Decision Support System is established.
Development of this type of option in New Strategic information System will helps in
Forecasting and Modeling of the educational system (Long, 2018). Improvement in this
area helps in proper Management of Enrollment projections, demand and supply of the

strategy. These strategy helps in forecasting the marketing situations and also modeling
new concept in providing education services to Students. It also helps in decision making
of the managers.
 SISP (Strategic Information System Planning): This can be improved by Properly
keeping and managing the students records within university (Becker, Stead and Stead,
2016). New System consists of Office Automation and Transnational Processing that
which helps in managing all the activities of the University.
 Internal Portals and Web Development: This is one of the important features which is
developed in a new system in order to appropriately handle the current information

which also helps in showing the current status. As Existing system was not using proper
framework or internal application within Melbourne university. So current system

 To improve Productivity and Performance of the University, various internal software
and databases are developed in order to manage the large amount of information.
Technology plays very important part in development and functioning of the software.
 Technology has also provided various platforms to identify the need to build software
and its uses. These platforms may be in the form of social networking sites or internet

based applications that lets the staff members of Melbourne university to identify the
latest application (Strategic Information System Planning, 2018).
 Advanced technology enables various new and easy ways to manage and organize the
information. This also helps in sustainability and growth of the Education sector.

Lecture Section: This entity will consist of all the data related to the lecture of the teacher. It
also contains various attributes related to the those who are taking lectures and those who are
attaining lectures.
Financial attributes: Per_lecture_cost, Total_lectures
Non financial attributes: Faculty name, Course, time, subject, Number_of _students
Course Offering: This entity mainly helps in offering subjects to students and it also maintains
the information about the number of students enrolled for particular course.
Financial attributes: Enroll_amount, Number_student, Total_Dues, Fees_per_course
Non financial attributes: Name_of_student, Stud_Id, Total_student, semester_type, Course,
Section, day, time, Location
Department: This entity contains mixed attribute in which all the higher management authority
people are involved with the description of the individual person and their work.

Financial attributes: Total_emp, Salary_individual,
Non financial attributes: department_type, Description_of_employees, Designation,
employee_id, employee_name
Faculty: It contains Information about the staff and also students. This entity also helps in
explaining the attributes regarding the Lecture and all such sections which are held by the
professors and it also reflects some more attributes related to qualification and salary according
their qualification.
Financial attributes: Salary, Calculated_dues
Non financial attributes: Name, ID, profession, staff, qualification, Lecture_section
Staff: It consists of attributes which can be acquired from different entities. This entity may form
composite attribute which can be accessed by higher management of the university.
Financial attributes: Total_sessions, total_hours, Salary_calculated
Non financial attributes: Appointed_staff, required, alloted_faculty, Name, ID, session
c). Four User View
There are multiple users are involved in Melbourne University such as administrator,
managers, staff, faculty and students. These users share positive views in employing the new
Strategic Information System within (Zeynal and et.al., 2017). As the development of new
System within the University leads to improved operational efficiency and also supports the data
management of University. Such users are as follows:
Management: As per the Views of Management, MIS System is entertained in the university
that helps in management of huge database of university.
Staff: One more software in developed which facilitated the staff members in getting proper pay
slips and salary on their monthly basis. So as per the views of the staff members, Portals and
Web development programs within University helps in improving the operational efficiency of
the managers.
Faculty: After the development of the internal portals and EIP software, Faculty get easily
access to the information which displays the information about the basic information about the
lecture. This basic information can be provided by internal messages to allow the professor to
notify about the time and date of the lecture (SIS, 2017).

Students: These are the end users who enjoys total information of the courses which allows
them to select appropriate courses according to their interests. So SISP helps students to get the
information about their enrolled courses and name of faculty along with class time and date.
d). Potential security Risks and Data Breach to control the accounting of new system
In order to improve the existing strategic Information System of the Melbourne
University, various update and alterations are required to improve the system. Information
security is the practice of Protecting the technology system and data from the Vulnerabilities,
Threats and attacks. These attacks may be intentional or unintentional exploitation of the system
that may compromise confidentiality, integrity and availability of Strategic information. So, risk
factor can also be assessed which restricts the development of the data new system. Such data
breaches and Security Controls are followed as below:
 Readiness for the Strategic use of Information System that determines the appropriate use
of MIS and Technological Platforms. Resolving this type of data breach will result in

are posing significant threat to individual and corporate computer system.
 Also, ISRM (Information Security risk Management) is the process of managing Risks
which are associated with the use of Information technology. This helps in assessing,
identifying and treating the risks of the confidentiality, availability and integrity of
organisation assets.

CONCLUSION
From the above study it can be concluded that, Use of the SIS has created a long impact
on Education industries. Strategic Information System has helped University of Melbourne in
taking an appropriate decision regarding the investment in Information System. Implementation
of new system leads to the growth and development of the new concept in the education system
which lets students to understand and improve the skills properly. The report has also provided
organizational chart of Melbourne university. The research has also identified lacking areas of
existing system and provided new techniques which are used to address those issues. The study
has developed Entity relationship Diagram and Data flow Diagram of new system in order to
improve the information flow of Education industry. This report has also provided various
Information systems that helped in promoting better technology as EDI.
