dean of the school of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002She received numerous
honors, awards, honorary doctorates and medals ( Hart & Swenty, 2016 ). Her research focuses
on health globally, international health and the theoretical development of the nursing discipline.
She later started to develop the transition theory in the mid-1960s when she was pursuing her
Ph.D. Her masters and Ph.D. probed planning pregnancy phenomena and the mastery of parental
