The mental illness in men is often affiliated with the hopelessness and sadness, and it also
manifests itself in anger and irritability, alcohol and drug abuse and unnecessary risk-taking.
The physical sign of the depression may constitute of change in appetite, loss of sex drive,
loss of energy, alcohol or drug abuse. The emotional symptoms may include feeling nervous
and isolated, suicidal thoughts, feeling guilty and losing pleasure in activities.
These medical conditions require appropriate recommendations from the doctors and
psychologists. The necessary changes that men who have mental illness need constitute of
lifestyle changes like engaging in regular physical activities, eating a healthy diet, cutting
down on drugs and alcohol. In addition, psychological treatments are also significant in
reducing the anxiety and depression feelings in men which constitute of cognitive behavior
therapy (Wolff et al.,2015, pg.66-80) It is often recommended to be the first method of
treating mental illness in men particularly in mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
Antidepressant medication might be necessary to some people; thus it useful in treating
both depression and anxiety. At times it may take time for a personal doctor to find the
appropriate dose and medication that is most effective for the patient. However, the medicine
may take two weeks for it to be effective.
In case of circumstances that men start experiencing any signs that may be associated with
mental illness, a suitable care plan should be taken. As a result, there is a need for them to be
referred to a psychologist who can aid in addressing vital issues like how to deal with
challenges in a relationship and negative thinking. Majority of the men find it difficult to
admit that they are going through a tough time since they regard it as weakness; hence they
do not get a chance to pull themselves together. (MossRacusin and Miller., 2016, pg. 319 -
335). The best remedy that could be recommended in such a situation is by talking to a

partner, friend, family member or college that is trustable since keeping the problem to
oneself will worsen the situation.
