1Mental Health Clinic Project Proposal
Introduction
Mental health is defined as person’s illness with respect to their emotional and
physiological well-being. Misbalanced mental health can lead to depression and other mental
health issue which needs proper addressing by a psychiatrist (Almutairi, 2015). To provide
such facilities to mental patient, urgent health care clinic was started by a group of
Psychiatrist in Birmingham, AL. The aim of this report is to analyse the funding required and
financial feasibility for starting an urgent mental health care clinic.
Need of mental health clinic
Patient suffering from mental health issue such as, having suicidal thought and
depression need crucial consideration from psychologists but emergency rooms of mental
hospitals are already pre occupied by psychiatric patient (Almutairi, 2015). The cost of
treatment is more in hospitals and also they have to wait for an appointment. In Birmingham,
AL, there are no such urgent care clinic for psychic patients. Hence, to fill that gap they
started a mental health urgent care clinic.
Funding
To open a Mental Health Urgent Care Clinic, capital is the most important entity. The
most important criteria for starting an urgent care clinic is to get a specific place, which can
be accessed easily by patients. There are many other arrangement which need to be done
beforehand such as appointing psychiatrists and staff to handle patient. Medical supplies such
as, equipment and medicines should be also prearranged (Johnston, Peppard & Newton,
2015).

Evaluation of financial feasibility
Financial feasibility is carried out while beginning a new project to analyse the cost
and revenue of the project. It is done to ensure that the scheme lives up to its expectation in
terms of performance (Melnic & Iliescu, 2017).
The cost for providing medical services is around $50,000 - $ 80,000 which is less
than that of emergency department. The revenue usually collected from the medical clinic is
less during the beginning and increases slowly. The revenue collected in the starting is
around $40,000 - $70, 000.
Medicaid is program in US that provides health insurance to low class people. Nearly
60% - 70% of the patient have medical insurance which covers the all the services provided
to a psychic patient (Ostrow et al., 2017). Other uninsured patient have to pay more as
compared to these covered by Medicaid. The reimbursement rate of Medicaid is around $257
and $300. The operating cost of ED is approximately $10,000 to $20,000 depending upon the
severity of the illness, which is more than that of the cost of mental health clinic. The
different staff member at the ED are nursing staff, medical assistant, therapist and physician.
Each of them have different salary which is approximately $7,000 to $20,000 per month, but
it depends entirely upon the designation of the staff.
After considering all these cost, the reimbursement rate is higher than that of the
costing and therefore the project is feasible.
Conclusion
To conclude, mental health clinic is started to provide urgent care to mental patient at
low cost. Funding is required to set up the clinic and also the reimbursement rate is more than
that of the costing. Hence the project is financially feasible.
