INTRODUCTION
In healthcare settings, the concept of communication is quite essential for both care
nurses and patients as well. Having positive communication within healthcare for nursing
profession can effectively enhance the quality of care that is generally given to the patients to
improve their well-being. In this, a skilful communication can allow the healthcare professionals
and care nurses to establish a rapport with their vulnerable patients, solicit essential well-being
and health informations, as well as can work efficiently with all the care members of a healthcare
team as well as the public. In health and social care sectors, with help of communication, care
nurses and care staff members can effectively share the informations, their thoughts as well as
the feelings within people with help of speech and other means. In addition to this, the
therapeutic care practices can include the oral communication of the public well-being officials
as well as the care nurses on the one hand as well as the patients and their relatives on the other
hand. In this report, there is discussion about my reflection as a nursing care assistant where I am
providing effective care treatment to the patient having mental disorder. To illustrate overall
situations, it can be best described with help of Driscoll model of reflection. It is generally a tool
that is used to structure the reflection moments in a very decent pathway. The reflective model is
generally based on three unique questions that is What, So What and Now What which can help
me to effectively analyse my experience and can able to learn from these such situations more
effectively as well (Shorey, Siew & Ang, 2018).
WHAT
In healthcare settings, there is a case scenario of a patient named Nancy who is suffering
from mental disorder and in order to treat her mental disorder, I have an opportunity to
administer a dose of anti-psychotic medication but the patient has refused to take the medication.
The patient generally feels that the anti-psychotic medication would not help her to cure his
mental illness and due to this, she refused to take the medications. In addition to this, this
particular scenario makes me feel that I have to improve my communication skills in order to
treat my patient effectively. Through having effective communication, I can able to handle such
type of conditions so that these types of conditions or situations will not occur again in my
nursing profession. In this, to improve my skills more effectively, I have to take sessions that can
help me to educate about the importance of self-awareness as well as effective communication
and by these particular sessions I can able to build an effective relationships with my patient. The

concept of self-awareness within nursing profession can help me to identify the responses
towards the most difficult situations such as patient Nancy's who refused to take anti-psychotic
medications. While providing care treatment to patient, I effectively found that I have lack some
of the skills like empathy, self-awareness, integrity, communication skills and many more
(Shorey, Siew & Ang, 2018). In this, the Driscoll model also help me to analyse the whole
situation such that my strengths and weaknesses while providing care treatment to patients as
well as in which part I have to work hard so that I can effectively able to foster the quality care
services to the patient well. In the learning sessions, I have analysed about the importance of
interpersonal skills and importance of building relationships with patients and in my case, there
is a need to improve the interpersonal skills as well as building the positive relationships with the
patients so that I can effectively provide knowledge and understanding of her case scenario.
There is need to aware about the effectiveness of the anti-psychotic medications to the patient as
the patient thinks that it will not cure her mental disorder and can create a negative impact on her
health and well-being. As a care nurse, it is my duty to provide effective information and aware
the patient about its therapeutic interventions so that patient can able to reduce her illness and
live a quality life (Shayan, Kiwanuka & Nakaye, 2019).
SO WHAT
While providing care services to the patient, it is analysed by me that my ineffective
skills of communication makes difficulty for me to deliver an effective care services to my
patient. It is quite essential to identify the concept of effective communication so that I can
handle any challenging or difficult situation which come across while delivering care services to
patients. It is quite essential for me to develop self- confidence as well as hike my voice so that I
can able to convince my patients to take their medications properly and this can help me to
improve their conditions further. Through reflective approaches, I will be effectively improving
my skills such as analytical and conceptual as well. Through effective cognitive process, I have
learned how to manage the stress as well as emotions that more frequently troubled me while
caring and categorise patient care, so that I can able to control certain situation rather than
becoming emotionally not able to cope with situation. Adopting skills such as integrity, empathy
are quite necessary for me as a care nurse to have such qualities or skills in me so that I can
handle every situation that came across and I can deliver the efficient quality of care to patients
that as an outcome can better their well-being and health as well. In my care plan, these such

fundamental interaction are specifically uninterrupted and are ranging from low to high effectual
ratio. Furthermore, while delivering care services, I found that there are various side effects of
anti-psychotic drug that is mainly prescribed to Nancy which she refused to take the medication
(Shayan, Kiwanuka & Nakaye, 2019). Its side effects can concern about dizziness, sedation,
gaining of weight and many more. The side effects of anti-psychotic drug can also make
influence over Nancy's mental health as well. Through reflective model, I will efficiently get to
know about what are my lacks as well as my strengths so that I can effectively use the strengths
while performing my care clinical practices within healthcare sectors (Good nursing and
midwifery care, 2022). There is also MNC (Midwifery and Nursing Council) codes that can
positively aid me to deliver care services as well as the quality of life to my patients. While
knowing the concept of reflective model, it includes what, so what, now what questions which
can aid me better realize the condition and provide the solutions as per situation to deal with
occurring condition (Moorcroft, Scarinci & Meyer, 2019).
NOW WHAT
From the following situations, I can effectively able to learn that self-awareness is quite
essential and is the primary component within the healthcare sectors while delivering care
services to patients. I can able to learn and gain knowledge that having effective communication
within the healthcare organization is essential to work efficiently with co-care worker and with
patients too. In this, a clear communication generally means that the information is generally
conveyed among the care nurses, patients and their relatives. Therefore, it is analysed that these
such skills are not always apparent and as a care nurse, I do not always communicate well with
my patients, their relatives and my co-care workers. In this, the continuous barriers towards the
effective communication can effectively bring the gradual breakdown in the relationships. The
occurrence of conflicts within the healthcare organization can also be a cause of effective
communication. In addition to this, I effectively know or understand through the reflective
approaches that while performing the care clinical practices, I have to significantly focus on my
thoughts as well as have to better my thought or ideas. It is known that other awareness that take
part in delivery of quality care to my patients. In addition to this the other awareness which are
specifically included within nursing care practices like stability of emotions, integrity,
confidence, empathy, efficient communication skills and many more (Kutzin, 2019). In contrast
with integrity, within my care clinical practices, I have to make few major decisions that make

direct impact over the lives of patients and with help of integrity skill I can able to improve
relationship with my patients so that they get to know about, I truly foster best care services for
my patients. With aid of integrity skill, it is specifically an easiest as well as the quickest
pathway to gain the trust of the patients who are in my care as well as those patients who are
generally around me. In addition to this, it is significantly an essential within the care practices as
well as healing mind, soul and whole body of patients. In contrast with communication, it is an
primary component within the nursing practice in whole activities along with its interventions
like providing care treatment, their prevention, diagnosis, effective therapies and many more. It
is effectively understood by me that having a constructive communication skill within care
practices, I can effectively able to deal with my patients. Through better communication, I can
effectively able to evolve a positive relationship with patients as well as can able to build trust
with them so that patients can easily share their emotions along with their fear with me
(Milutinović, Lovrić & Simin, 2018).
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it is effectively analysed that as a care nurse, providing care
services to patients is quite critical within healthcare sectors as well as are core in strengthening
the well-being care system. Through having effective skills, I can significantly able to bring the
person-centred care much closer to the communities where they are required the most, thereby
aiding in enhancing the well-being results as well as the whole cost-effectiveness of the care
services. Within healthcare sectors, the concept of communication is generally the prime factor
of sound relationships, collaboration and the co-operation, that in turn are quite important aspects
of the care professional practices. In this, the quality of communication within interaction among
the care nurses and patients generally has a great impact over the patient outcomes. In this, the
enhancement within the nursing communication can effectively reduces the medication errors as
well as can make a variation in the positive outcomes of the patient. From the above discussion, I
can able to understand about the effectiveness of the communication while delivering care
services to patients. Having effective communication can help both patient and a care nurse to
share the emotions and feelings. These can positively build a relationship among each other and
the care nurses can able to deliver the care services as per their patient's need. With help of
effective communication and its interventions to barriers are quite effective and build a
successful therapeutic interactions within healthcare settings.
