Nursing practices can be described as the roles and function of a person who is registered nurse
as well as have proper education to carry out require activities in significant manner. It is a role
of a nurse to perform different care practices to individual in order to enhance health services
quality. Mental health is consider as crucial aspect in overall health and care practices and it is
important for nurse to have proper information about mental health care activities (Expósito, J.
S., Jiménez-Rodríguez, D., Agea, J. L. D., Izquierdo, M. D. C., & Costa, C. L. 2019). This will
assist in dealing with any kind of issues as well as overcoming the problem in more significant
manner (Tranter &Robertson, 2020). This report will include importance for nursing student to
have knowledge about mental health and mental illness in consideration of physical and mental
health issues. In this report importance for all nurse to understand recovery model of care as well
as use it properly in order to enhance their practices is determined. It consist the significance of
mental state examination while comprehensive assessment of individual. Apart form this
different steps which should be taken by Janice and Samprit to support a person in mental health
needs in hospital environment.
1. Nexus between mental health and physical health
Mental health is refer as well being of a person in terms of emotional, psychological as
well as social. This health capability of an individual lead to have direct impact on thinking,
feeling along with the how person act. Mental health is significant for determining the different
ways to handle stress as well as make appropriate choices. There are different types of mental
health or mental illness such as anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorder, personality
disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and many more. It is crucial to provide effective and
efficient services to individual who is dealing with mental illness. There are number of ways and
approaches which are significant for correctly dealing with mental health issues or mental illness
in order to overcome problem significantly (Jamieson, E., Whyte, L. A., & McCall, J. M. 2019).
Mental health problem includes various problems such as biological factor, life experiences or
family history with mental health problems. It is very important for Janice and Samprit to
accurate knowledge and understanding about mental health and mental illness in the light of high

hospital, nurse have to carry out different activities and practices which will lead to have direct
impact on recovery of patient. Registered nurse who is working in hospital needs should have
required knowledge and understanding regarding different health care practices. In this mental
health and mental illness play very important role in face and effective recovery of the patient.
Understanding and knowledge about the mental health care practices will support in enhancing
and increasing the quality of services (Rout, J., Essack, S., & Brysiewicz, P. 2019). Mental
health nursing is also known as psychiatric nursing and it is consider as the specialized field of
nursing practices. In this type of nursing activities, role of nurse is to provide accurate services in
order to recover with mental disorder as well as help in overcoming quality of life. It is crucial
that health care service provider is providing accurate and effective services. This could be only
possible if nursing care provider have information and knowledge about different aspects of
health (Howard and Eddy‐Imishue, 2020). Understanding about mental health is significant for
successfully and effectively managing practices related to psychological issues while dealing
with patient and enhancing quality of services. Mental health and mental illness is a form for
primary health care practice and proper education about this aspect will be significant for
correctly dealing with the issues. For example Janice is studying about Intensive Care Unit and
while conducting this type of health care practice she needs to focus on both physical and mental
health care. Knowledge about mental care is significant for enhancing performance as well as
encouraging patient to deal with issues significantly. Intensive care units is correlated with
general mental health problems and PTSD. Samprit wants to work in Emergency department in
which he can take appropriate decision as well as fast actions in order to save lives. In this case
knowledge and information about mental health will assist is provide accurate services according
to the need of individual. Understand of mental illness will assist Samprit to take correct decision
as well as prevent patient for different issue or danger. Knowledge about mental health will help
care provider to calm patient who is showing signs of physiological instability.
Physical and mental health is interrelated with each other and it will impact on
successfully overcoming of a patient (Karadzhov, 2020). It is essential for nursing care learner to
gain proper knowledge about mental and physical health as both of this are fundamentally linked
with others. Poor mental health of a person is a risk factor and it can impact over chronic
physical conditions. There are high chances that individual will serious mental health condition

are at more risk of experiencing chronic physical conditions. For example individual who suffer
from depression that is mental illness have changes that they have issues of diabetes or anxiety.
This increases the chances of self harm or physical harms. In the case of people dealing with
chronic physical condition there are high risk of developing poor mental health condition. So
both of these are essential for a student to learn and gain information in order to successfully and
effectively carry out health care practices in significant manner.
2. Recovery
Recovery model can be describe as the approach that is consider by health care provider
in order to focus on recovery of patient. This is significant model that provide correct and
accurate guidance to individual for successful and effective recover. It is important for all nurses
such as Janice and Samprit in order to understand recovery model of care that is utilized by
mental health care services in order to enhance their practice. It is essential for each and every
health care provider to have complete and accurate knowledge about recovery model. Effective
and successful recovery of patent is the ultimate goal of health care provider. In order to attain
this goal it is important to care provider have significant understanding and knowledge about the
topic so that correct decision in correct time could be taken appropriately(Morais, R. L. G. L.,
Tanan, M. S., Oliveira, J. D. S., Macedo, M. P., & Nery, A. A. 2017). By gaining proper
understanding about the recovery model Janice and Samprit is able to provide determine their
own path of recovery by taking accurate decisions. This model is significant for providing
information to nurse to successfully carry out of person centered care to patient in order to
enhance the quality of services. It is aims of recovery model to help people who are dealing with
mental illness and distress so that they look beyond mere survival or existence. Proper
understanding of this model will help Jamice and Samprit to encourages patient to look forward
along with this set new goals. For example wellness recovery action plan model. This model was
developed by Ellen Copeland and it is helpful for self manage individual experiences. Another
similar model was develop at Dartmouth College and it is known and Illness management and
recovery model. Guidance of recovery model will help nursing care provider to develop strong
and effective relationship with the patient in order to support them in fast recovery of the
patients. This model is significant for eliminating discrimination practices as well as successfully
achieving recovery of the patient. This model assist in increasing hope along with this create
positive environment with the motive of fast recovery.

Mental status examination can be describe as the structured assessment of the patient in
order to determine behavioural and cognitive functioning. This will assist in determining any
kind of issue and problem which is affect individual. The main purpose of mental status
examination is to give snapshot to the patient by examining emotions, behavior as well as
thoughts of person during the time of observation. This examination play crucial role in
providing better and effective services to patient by determining mental status and stability of
individual. This is significant for person who is providing health care services to have proper and
accurate understanding about mental state examination in order to correctly carry out health care
practices. By accurate knowledge about metal state examination health care provider will be able
to evaluate the current state of mind of patient, attitude, behavior, mood, through process, though
content, judgment, perception etc. For example health care provider needs to determine the
attitude or behavior of mental illness patient. This will assist in analyzing different aspects which
affect patient. On the bases of this understanding, health care provider will take accurate steps
and action in order to deal with the issue of patient. Mental state examination will lead to have

take quick decision making. Janice and Samprit first needs to gain proper information and

is effective for providing guidance and direction to them so that they can take correct decision in
correct time duration. It is essential for them to gain information about different elements of
mental health nursing practices and assist in overcoming the issues of patient successfully. Janice
and Samprit should learn about assessing patients who are mentally ill as well as analyze
different measures or techniques which should be consider for providing better assistance to
patient. Observation is one of the essential step for providing support with mental health need
with in the hospital environment (Parker, L. A., Withers, J. H., & Talaga, E. 2018). Through this
they will lead to provide care to patient with mental problems as well as help patient to take part
in different activities. Samprit and Janice next step is to learn and gain information about giving
medication to treating mental illness and its side effects. This step will lead to increase their
capability to deal with the mental health problem patient and successfully provide correct
treatment by diagnose issues (Howard and Eddy‐Imishue, 2020). This will assist in Samprit to
correctly deal with patient in Emergency department of the hospital and take correct decision in
correct time. It is crucial that heath care provider have effective communication skill. This skill
is needed by health care provider while dealing with patient as well as their family member.
Communication skill will assist health care provider to correctly discus issue with patient and
family member.
2. CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded the mental health play important for in
accurate functioning of body. It is crucial for health care provider to have appropriate knowledge
and information about mental health while providing care services to patient. Correct
understanding about mental health and mental illness will assist in increasing capability and
potential of individual to successfully conduct practices. Physical health and mental health are
directly linked with each other and both of this play significant role in overall health of
individual. Recovery model and mental state examination will assist in providing accurate health
care services as per the need and want of patient. Apart form this different steps should be taken
by health career provider in order to engage in support with mental health needs with in hospital
