The aim of the paper is to analyze the issue of suicide and mental disorders through the
lens of the different schools of thought. These are namely, learning method, the socio-cognitive
school and biological perspective. Suicide is the process of intentionally causing death to the self
and there are multiple reasons associated to the process of suicide.
1. Based on the theoretical information provided in your text, discuss the differing schools
of thought - learning, socio-cognitive, biological perspectives in relation to suicide.
According to the socio-emotional learning perspective, psychological factors are one of
the reasons for the higher rates of suicides and it is the dissatisfaction and unfulfilled
psychological needs that leads to higher level of frustration and gradually to suicide.
According to the socio-cognitive school of thought it is argued that the matter of suicide
is the response of the social situations that have a direct correlation to the development of
mental disorder and suicide. This includes issues like bullying and harassment within a
social context. It can also be the religious beliefs which help to determine the number of
suicide rates. According to Durkheim, group cohesiveness is seen to be a factor of
suicide.
The third school of thought, the biological school, it is caused due to the biological fact
that these individuals are biologically depressed and this is the reason why tend to
develop suicidal tendencies. Studies have also found that the relation between neural
connection and suicides have seemed to have reduced the level of neurotransmitter
serotonin. Even it is argued that biological factors contribute towards mood disorders and
this has direct correlation with suicide.

time.
Need for development of a suicide helpline to individuals with suicidal tendencies.
Helping the see the reality and develop the ability to cope with it.
