INTRODUCTION
Mental health can be defined as emotional, psychological, and social well-being of
individual. It impacts on the way individual think, feel and act while doing specific task. At the
same time, it also helps in determining the manner in which a person handle stressful situation,
make choices and decision in its life and many more. Mental health is important at every stage
of life, whether it is childhood, adolescence or at older stage. Depression, bipolar disorder, and
other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, Eating disorders, Personality disorders, post-traumatic
stress disorder and many more. This report depicts crucial information related to impact of
mental ill health on individual, role of health and social care in promoting mental health and
well-being. It also discussed the type of mental ill health, public attitude toward the mental
health and the necessary support available to the people for its good health and well-being.

Promoting health and well-being
Mental health can be referred to as a person’s condition with regard to their psychological
and emotional well-being that directly influence the manner in which it thinks, feel and make
choice in life. on the other hand, mental ill health can be defined as a wide range of mental health
conditions or disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behaviour. Likewise, it can cause a
feeling of depression, anxiety and addictive behaviours among the individual living within the
society. Moreover, mental health is important for every individual as it affect on the manner
individual think, feel, the way they behave, that directly impact on overall health and well-being
and the quality of life (Pandey and et.al., 2022). Good mental health is good esteem, good
problem solving, resilience, coping abilities and interpersonal skill that engaged it in community
to promote reward, inclusion and connectedness. It lead in making a peaceful society in which
each and every individual can live peacefully without much issue.
On the contrary hand, poor mental health can be defined as range of difficulties and
problems that are face by individual in the organization. For example: it includes feeling anxious,
difficulties in relationships with others, sleeplessness and sense of alienation and isolation.
Discrimination and stigma may further exacerbate the problem of mental health being faced by
individual while living in the society. It can also be illustrated that Mental health problems

results in negatively impacting on the health that is poorer physical functioning, increase in
treatment costs and development of physical conditions (Brouwers, 2020). At last poor mental
health in United Kingdom has lead in mental health problems in England as per 2002/03,
because total cost of £77 billion need to be made.
Mental Health Act (1983) is one of the legislation or policy pertaining to the mental health
and well being that include assessment, treatment and right of people that are suffering from
mental health disorder. It contributes in informing people about the mental health problem or
what are their respective rights related to assessment, getting a better treatment for good health.
Likewise, it helps in providing information to people about the treatment in the community,
pathways into hospital, which can be civil or criminal. Furthermore, all those individual that are
detained under mental health act require urgent treatment for their mental health issue as well as
have greater risk of getting harm to themselves and others.
The act has been currently amended by Mental Health Act 2007 that give power to health
professionals, to detain, access and treat individual that are being suffering from mental disorder
illness in interest of health and safety or public safety. It is act that have come after culmination
of many years that attempt to enforcing government to take steps to reform mental health
legislation in England and Wales. Especially for the individual that are facing serious mental
disorder issues and that can adversely impact on their overall health and well-being (Wright and
et.al., 2021). Therefore, it can be stated that the law has been reformed with an motivate to
ensure that the patient are being treated equally so that they can be protected from any type of
danger, have access to better treatment for good health ahead.
The individual can make use of different method to promote mental health and well-being
among them by devoting time to do exercise and meditation. As exercise contribute in reducing
the stress level, anxiety and many other negative feeling among the individual so that it can
reduce mental health issue. In another words, Exercise can reduce feelings of stress and
depression and improve mood of individual, hence it can be more physically active. For
meditation, the people suffering from mental health must select a place where it can have less
distraction, comfortable posture that is sitting, lying down, walking. It must also adapt to
relaxing techniques while doing exercise that is breathing in and out to intake fresh air (Eseadi,
2019). Guided imagery, can also be used in which positive image can be build in mind so that

individual can feel more relaxed and focused. Hence, exercise, mediation are crucial method of
tacking mental stress that are caused by individual because of unhealthy environment.
At the same time, connecting with different range of people is also best suitable method that
could be utilised by person to avoid mental health issue in future scenario. Such as, good
relationships are important for each and every individual mental well-being as they can easily
share their problem, issue with others. In addition to this human are social creatures, hence it is
necessary to have strong and healthy relationship with other. Social support helps in protecting
individual from harmful stress that they face because of negative environment created by others.
It contribute in developing a feeling of meaning of life or purpose to live better lifestyles, thus
they are ready to accept all new methods (Robles and et.al., 2022). Furthermore, health and
social care play important role in promoting mental health and well being through generating
awareness among people to live in healthy and safe environment, take proper rest and sleep etc.
Mental health is one of the biggest issue that has adversely impacted on large number of
individual that is estimated that around 1 in 6 adult is being suffering from mental health
disorder. That is depression and anxiety which is leading cause for number of death within the
society hence steps must be taken to remove the mental health issue face by individual.
Furthermore, there are range of National strategy to promote mental health and well-being that
has been used by government across worldwide such as it is raising fund to investment in health
and social care, focus on equality and diversity and implementing mental health campaign. With
an motivate to make more people aware about the way they can ensure their mental health and
well being for longer time frame (Illingworth, 2021). Likewise, it has initiated integrated
approach to physical and mental health with an motivate to provide joint services to significant
number of people that are experience mental services. For examples: providing services of
mental health professionals that could make optimum use of their available skills and capabilities
to treat the patient so that it can have better life ahead. Furthermore, the national strategy has also
lay emphasis on introducing new campaign that could be used to aware maximum number of
people about increasing mental health issue and the manner in which they can be overcome for
fruitful outcome. Company is making use in order to ensure health and safety of people.
Types of mental health illness- Mental health disorder are illness that create abnormalities
related to the way individual think, feel and behave. It directly impact on working and personal
relationship of the individual and lead in creating unsafe living environment. There are many

different type of mental illness such as anxiety disorder, impulse control and addiction disorders
and Personality disorders that can be explained in detailed as follows:
Anxiety disorder- People that are suffering from anxiety disorder respond to specific situation
with fear as well as physical sign of anxiety that is sweating and rapid heartbeat. It is a type of
mental health condition in which the individual become afraid in particular situations that lead in
negative impact on its overall health and well-being. Furthermore, it is normal emotion in which
the brain react to stress and alter about the potential danger ahead. In current scenario, Everyone
feels anxious now and then, likewise some of the individual get worried even facing small issue
in workplace and before giving a text or examination (Macfarlane, 2021).
On the contrary hand, impulse control and addiction disorders is also mental health
illness in which people are unable to resist urges to perform acts that could be harmful to other as
well as themselves. Different examples of impulsive control and addiction disorder are:
Compulsive gambling, Pyromania (starting fires) and kleptomania (stealing). Number of people
are highly addictive because of intake of Alcohol and drugs that lead in causing negative impact
on the mental health being. Moreover, the people that are suffering which such type of disorder
start ignoring their respective roles responsibilities and relationships with others. They does not
have control over their mental health or emotions that lead more adverse impact on their overall
health and well-being.
In addition, to this, another type of mental health illness that has been suffered by
individuals is personality disorder. Individual suffering from such issue have extreme and
inflexible personality traits that make them distressed, cause problem while working or building
social relationship. At the same time, the overall behaviours as well as thinking of person
significantly different from expectancy of the society. Examples of personality disorder are
obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder and antisocial
personality disorder (Kumar and Huang, 2021).
Impact of mental health on individual and others is adverse as it may cause people to be
alienated from their peers because of having unattractive personality or behaviours. Likewise,
become angry, sad, fear and helpless as it is not able to know or understand what or why it is
happening. Long term mental health condition face by individual results in enforcing person to
commit suicide (Hocking, 2018). As per the National Institute for mental health, 90% of reason
of suicide is mental disorder and depression. In addition to this, it also results in increasing

economic burden on the society through adding the cost of health and social care services been
rendered to the people. Loss of income results in creating unemployment, expense for social
support and range of indirect cost because of chronic disability. In short, it can be summarised
that the mental illness have negative influence on homelessness, poverty, employment, safety,
and the local economy.
There are various statistical information that could be used in order to explain the support
available to individual and others. Such as, in 2020, there are 52.9 million of adults that are
facing AMI among which 46.2% has received mental healthcare services in past years. As
compared to male (37.4%), female (51.2%)has received mental health services across United
kingdom. While, the adult belonging to the age group of 18-25 received mental health services
around 42.1%, that was lower as compared to adults with aged 26-49 years (46.6%) and 50 and
older than that have (48.0%). However, there are many individuals belonging having low
disposable income, poor areas or are older in age have less access to mental and well-being
(Donovan and et.al., 2021). Therefore, the mental health services has helped in improving the
health of people across worldwide.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that mental health is one of major issue that
has been face by maximum number of people living within the society. Government as well as
healthcare organization have coordinated taken step to reduce the mental health issue so that
people can have good lifestyle ahead. It has also helped in learning that individual through doing
regular exercise, proper sleep can stay away from mental stress or illness in any of the
circumstances. At last it can be summarized that despite many people have been provided mental
healthcare services, there are some individuals that does not have similar access.
