INTRODUCTION
Mental distress is that problem which large number of people are facing, as it can come
from so many reasons. In today's growing world mental distress becomes part of everyone's life,
but in some people mental distress have created serious problem. This serious problem becomes
reason of suicide and also the reason of mental disorder. There are many reason behind mental
problem like violence, poverty, etc. So such problem can be solved by the social worker and
community. It can also be solved by early precautions.
Chapter 1. Mental Health Awareness.
A. Importance of Positive Mental Health.
Help in making important contribution to their communities:
Positive mental health is the most important thing for every human being, as it gives so
many benefits. One of the most positive impact of good mental health is that individual can
contribute so much for the community as well as country. Mental fitness makes an individual
lifestyle very enjoyable.(Pilgrim,2019) Individuals with positive mental health are very much
involved in every activity either related to their work or in their community based activity.
Mentally weak people generally becomes burden to the society, as they are not able of doing
anything due to suffering from mental problem. Community need those people which can give
something new and big to them.
Helps in handling situation of stress:
Stress is the biggest problem which whole world is facing. Stress is a problem which comes form
so many reasons, like for children it can come through their studies, in young age it comes
through their relationships minds, after young age passes stress comes from job related factor. So
there is no ending to stress, it can come form any reason. So to deal with stress people need
healthy and positive mind.(Worden,2018) Person with positive mental health also get stress, but
they are well enabled to handle it, as they are very much in control with their emotions, or they
have good control over their mind. On the other hand people with not good mental health can't
able to handle pressure as they take so much of stress in every situation. They take each and
every thing very serious and that seriousness give them high stress. So the positive mental health
gives so many benefits to an individual.
Work with full productivity:
Document Page
Individuals with good mental health always work with full energy, and also they are very
productive. Individual's productivity depends upon its mind set, so person with weak mind set
can't handle pressure, but person with positive mind set can do their work with full ability by
handling pressure comfortably. It is a fact that every organization wants person who is great asset
to organization, so that they can achieve the target given to them. So in every organization there
is no space for weak mental health persons, as they become liability for firm. Person with
positive mind are also good leader, as they know how to handle situation and people of different
mind. They also help in reducing stress of other people by motivating with their positive mind
set.
Help in knowing their full potential:
Strong mental health people also knows their full potential. Positive mind set people do their all
work with calmness and also know how much potential they are having. Individuals can only
know their potential, when they know how to handle hard situation and to deal with stress.
(Melton and et.al., 2017) If individual is not able to control their mind they can never able to
know how much potential they are having. Potential can only be known when person is free with
stress and other mental problems.
B. Impact of social factor on individual's mental health.
Domestic and family violence: Domestic and family violence are one of the big reason in
individual mental illness, Individuals many time get mental problem due to problem running in
their family like person is getting lot of pressure from the family, sometime families daily fight
also become reason of mental illness and physical violence from family is also one of the reason
of it.(World Health Organization, 2016) Many of the time domestic violence is occurred due to
one of the intimate partner which used to make other partner mentally ill by the unethical and
violent behaviour.
Spiritual and cultural behaviour violence: In spiritual and cultural violence society gives such
treatment to individual that indirectly affect their mental health so much. People get so much
effect from this violence, as some people use spiritual method to affect others mind. Culture is
big means to affect mind, as in which culture people live it becomes their mind set for example
people who are living in such culture where all people use are very aggressive then it will affect
other minds as well.

Bullying: It is one of the biggest cause to mental illness, generally it's happened during college
days or schooldays. Senior bully's their junior which is big reason in students mental illness, as
they get fear in their mind of getting bullied. All over the world bullying is big crime, and also
strict action are taken against it.(Zeanah, 2018) So bullying gives negative impact over mental
health of individuals.
Impact of psychological factor over individuals mental health.
Emotional factor: Emotional factor affect individuals mental health very badly. Persons who
are emotionally weak get so many mental problem, as they take everything very serious and
stressfully. Emotion plays very important role during stress time, as person with less emotion
easily get out from the condition of stress. Mental problems are generally arises when people are
over thinker, or they are having very negative mind set.(Thornicroft and et.al., 2016)
Confidence: It is also a psychological factor which is related with their positivity of doing any
work. Confidence is also depends upon mental strength of a person, low confidence is generally
a reason of mental illness. Individual with low confidence is not able to do work effectively, as
there is always a fear of not doing any work properly. Confidence gives mental strength to
people for working hard and also make belief in people that they can achieve something great.
Chapter 2 . Managing Mental Wellbeing through Early Intervention.
A. Relationship between the impacts of factor affecting mental health and characteristics of
positive mental health in individuals.
The impacts of factor affecting mental health and characteristics of positive mental health are
very much related to each other. The factor which are affecting mental health are only the
characteristics if they are positive manner in person. Taking one of the factor confidence if this
factor is high in individual then it will become characteristics of positive mental health in
individuals. Another factor like emotional factor, if this factor is very strong in individual then it
will also become strength of an individual and will be directly related to positive mental health.
(Olson and et.al., 2016)
On the other hand these factor can be negative as well. Negative will be like if emotional factor
is not so strong in individual then it will become a negative relationship. So all those factor
which are affecting mental health are directly in relationship with the characteristics of positive
mental health of individuals.

The early warning signs of mental distress.
Constant worry or anxiety: Constant worry and anxiety are one of the early warning signs of
mental distress. In some individuals this problem arises that they take so much tension constantly
on very small matters and also feel anxiety constantly. So these are the symptoms which shows
that they are into mental distress.(Fazel, and et.al., 2016)
Difficulty concentrating: Individuals also get problem in concentrating so This is also a sign to
mental distress. Concentration is high of those persons who are mentally very strong, and in
other hand low concentration gives a symptom to mental distress.
Mood swings: Moods swing is generally happened with every individual, but some individuals
get daily mood swing and which is a symptom for mental distress. Mood swings can be defined,
as when person instantly changes mood without any reason.
Change in sleeping habits: Sleeping habits is also a minor symptom of mental distress, like
when an individual instantly changes sleeping habits, and this lead to mental distress of an
individual.
Taking alcohol a lot: Reason behind taking alcohol define the mental distress of an individual, as
most of the people take alcohol for reducing mental stress. So that's why taking alcohol is one of
the symptoms of mental distress.(Rice and et.al.,2016)
Depression: It is one of the vital symptom which shows mental distress, Depression general
affects those people who are mentally weak and not able to handle situation. Depression makes
people mind weak, as their mind is not in their control. So depression is treated as main reason of
mental distress,
Short temper: It is also comes as symptom of mental distress, generally short temper people are
not control of their census. This short temper people show anger even there is no such big matter,
which shows symptoms of mental distress.
B. Action which can be taken by the social and community workers in addressing the early
warning signs of mental stress in individuals.
Provide them counselling: Counselling is one of the way to solve the mental problem of
individual by Way a counsellor applies, they get some time with a client to understand the
feeling of the client.
Document Page
The way is for helping the client to understand things if possible from another point of view to
see things more transparently. The reason behind it is to help the client to to get out of the
negative behaviour and to come out with positive attitude.
It is a most important thing that the counsellor should be able to create relationship of trust in
which client or individual should able to show all the things he is facing.(Levecque and et.al.,
2017) The most important thing is that counsellor should explain to the client that if they are
getting anything which is violence to them then they should sue all the violence which they are
facing.
Positive supervision: Community can also provide positive supervision to reduce the mental
illness of others. Individuals are now in need of guidance which help they in understanding g
what they should do in their life for achieving good heights in life. All people are in want of
becoming well settle in their future, but due to not having good supervision they started feeling
pressure, anxiety and after that depression which makes them mentally ill, so if social worker or
community will provide them positive supervision they will able to understand the things which
will give them a way to success.
Financial support: Financial support is also one of the way to reduce mental illness problem, as
many of the individual faces depression due to financial problem. Like Individual was earning
good amount of money in business, but due to market influence he has faced lot of loss and due
to that loss he comes into depression at that time if community or social worker will help him
then it will help to come out of depression.
Providing them a way to get success: Social worker and community can also help individual in
getting out of pressure if they give them a way to do something which help them in feeling
happiness. Individuals are not getting the things which they want like if someone want to be a
businessmen but due to not having such people which can provide them a proper way or
direction of starting up a business. The biggest problem of today's youth is that they are not
having proper guidance in their life and due to this they started facing depression and after some
time they got the problem of mental illness.
Making people aware of wrong effect of using electronic devices: It becomes a big problem in
youth and child, when it comes to use of electronic devices. Electronic devices is giving very bad
effect to individuals minds, and generally youth and children are getting very bad effect from it,
as there are UV rays which comes out of mobile and mobile towers, using such type of social

sites which are not good for mental health. So community can aware every individual by telling
them about negative impact of electronic device on mental health.
Significance of early experiences in childhood for mental health.
Mainly in childhood, genetics play vital role in understanding whether a child is having issues or
not. Genes are not the reason as there are so many other reason behind it. Genes are only treated
as blueprints, as they only contains direction or instructions, but due to experience and bad
circumstances this instructions can get affected.
In initial years of a child’s life, there is very fast speed in growth of mind. There is formation of
700 to 1000 connections every second during childhood time. This all connection are not
permanent, as some of the connections are changed with experience and changing environment.
This type of experience and genetics play very much important role in determining the mental
health of the children.
In first few years experience of children help in shaping brain's architecture. The main
thing which becomes base of child's mental health are family background, living of standard,
teachers, etc. If environment of child is strong then, this will hep child to face stress problem at
the time of young age. But, if child is getting good environment like mother and father are very
supportive and teachers are also giving very good knowledge and environmental, then this will
be a good thing for child's mental health. The children who are mostly affected my mental illness
are generally those who are growing up in poverty or who are victims of domestic violence.
Chapter 3 To promote Mental Wellbeing
3 a) Early intervention.
There should be proper treatment provided as early as possible so that, their will be reduction of
distress and also reduce cost of health care. There are many mental health care team which can
solved the mental problem on the first stage only. Campaign should be organized for those who
are feeling that they are depressed and not able to enjoy life.(Alonso and et.al., 2018). It also help
people in addressing their mental problem earlier as they understand what should be the
symptoms of mental distress.
Approaches
A holistic approach means to take of someone in all aspects. It means that thinking of a
big picture (Zeanah, 2018). In medical holistic refers to the address the whole person. That
includes mental, physical as well as social factors. Holistic medicine includes the conventional as

well as alternative treatment. This approach recognizes an obstacle and also take a step back to
understand the full situation. Benefits of Holistic approaches mention below.
No assumptions
Problem- when a patient is dealing with a complication ,people can make the assumptions
about the obstacles and constraints that able to prevent various solutions (Pilgrim,2019).
Solution- try to analysis that everything an individual think is true regarding situation and then
also consider that is not. The other person do not have the same information as earlier one have.
Relevant and Accurate information
Problem – With the irrelevant information interpersonal blow out also rife. Everyone has
an experience a fight with a sibling or cousin (Worden,2018).
Solution- so with a cool-headed ,it accesses that what parts of the fight are related to the issues
and which is about entirely different. So when the problem is very complex ,solutions came
easier when someone pushes as well as misleading the information or provide the irrelevant
information (Melton and et.al., 2017).
Active listening
Another best way to solve the daily conflicts as well as discussions or regarding a
patient's medical issues of a patient is active listening. When someone telling them how they are
feeling, just repeats it back. This especially helpful while speaking with the patients. It makes
them again full of energy as now they are feeling good as someone listens to them. They also
create appreciation as well as empathy. It is considered as opportunity for the patients to refine as
well as correct the statement to understand misunderstandings (World Health Organization,
2016).
Interventions of mental health
As physical health makes our body fit same as mental health makes our mental health fit.
When a person is mentally heath can enjoy their life, environment as well as people whom they
are connected. Nurturing mental health aids to prevent mental health problems that may be
sometimes associated with the veterinary illness with a chronic physical illness (Thornicroft and
et.al., 2016). In some cases it prevents the relapse of a mental illness. Managing stress have a
positive influence on the heart related diseases. Mention below health intervention that can
design as well as promote mental health for all.
Less intense treatment
Document Page
The sooner the people get the mental health intervention ,less intense time to they will get
endure. Many persons thought that their mental health gets worse over the time .It allows them to
prevent the need for the medication within some as well as reduces the dosage as well as
frequency needed for those who needed medication (Olson and et.al., 2016).It able to prevent
people from turning them to harmful as well as even mechanisms for example self harm,
abuse,even suicide.
Fewer logistical outcomes
People when stared to succumb to the mental symptoms many crucial aspect of their life
is affected. Their relationship ruined, and also it deteriorate their performance at school or as
working deadlines (Fazel, and et.al., 2016). This can also result into the loss into
friendship, unemployment and also the college drop out. Potential employees must also look into
the mental health records, because of this it impact negatively on the future career opportunities.
Many of the medical insurance policies as well professionals also increases the treatment cost
when mental patients can be diagnosed (Rice and et.al.,2016).
3b)Strategy that aims to provide the promotion of mental health care
Strategy used such as Health Promotion Programs
To create awareness towards mental heath care is a strategy that described the content, process as
well as out com criteria regarding mental health promotion programs. Some examples are given
below.
The best current as well as single source of promotion related to the mental health is
annotated bibliography prepared tickett, Dahiyat as well as Selby ( in press) (Levecque and et.al.,
2017).As they focused on the articles which are dealing with the mental health care as well as
education consider as a preventive strategy. The mental health programs focused on the health
enhancing habits as well as particular interventions programs to the mental health of child as
well as maternal health. Also supporting as well as strengthening family functions I consider as
the focal issues mental health promotional efforts (Alonso and et.al., 2018).
