1HEALTHCARE ASSIGNMENT
Development and improvement in the healthcare processes has increased the scope of
practice for nursing and care professionals due to which it has become important for them to
revalidate their skills and abilities (Chamblee et al., 2015). Professional portfolio helps nursing
professionals to develop evidences for their learning and reflections while working in their
profession and meeting their professional requirements (Crighton et al., 2018). In this paper, I
would be discussing about the significance of creating professional portfolio for mental
healthcare nursing and its role in healthcare processes.
As per Cope and Murray (2018), nursing portfolio is the professional document in which
nursing professionals document their professional skills, nursing achievements, their experiences
and their abilities to work under pressure so that these documents could be included in a single
document for records. Further, with the help of professional portfolio, it would be easier to
develop and include abilities in a document so that peers, future employers and educational
faculties of the professionals could be aware of the skills of the nursing professional (Peddle et
al., 2016). Therefore, this aspect should be considered as the primary reason for the development
of the professional portfolio.
My profession is mental health registered nurse and there are multiple skills that is
acquired by us that differentiates us from other nursing professionals and hence, it is important
for us to develop professional nursing portfolio, so that we could easily do multiple aspects such
as we could register out documents and conduct their professional reviews (Choi & Kim, 2016).
As a mental health nursing professional I have multiple skills such as ability to communicate
with the patients and their families, have verbal and written communication skills, ability to work
in multidisciplinary teams and I am aware of the theories and principles that should be included
for the mental health and illness. Besides this, I have the ability communicate with patient’s

family members so that planning of patient’s care process becomes effective and effective
therapeutic treatment could be provided to them. As Cooling (2018) mentioned that nursing
professionals should be able to conduct professionals development abilities and improve their
abilities by improving their knowledge, documentation of such activities and skills should be
conducted and should be included in the care process. This is the reason it is important for me to
develop professional portfolio so that I could include my strengths and limitations and learning
needs could be included in one document and I could develop effective plans to achieve these
goals and learning needs in my profession (Chamblee et al., 2015).
Hence, my Statement of Intent for my professional portfolio would be targeted for the
future employers so that they could become aware of my abilities and I could develop effective
care for the patients (Choi & Kim, 2016). My professional has allowed me to develop
opportunities so that I could achieve my goals and achieve higher education so that I could
improve my skills and achieve overall purpose and mission of the profession (Crighton et al.,
2018). This is the reason I would develop professional portfolio and would include statement of
intention in the care process.
