Mental Patient Treatment System: Process Flow and Sprint Cycle

This project details the analysis, development, and implementation of an automated system designed to treat mental patients. The system comprises frontend screens and a backend database for patient records. Task 1 focuses on changing medication doses based on prescriptions, including patient search, history display, and update options. Task 2 covers the formulary section, allowing operators to search for medicines using wildcard entries, displaying medicine details, and validating entries. Task 3 involves dose checking, ensuring the prescribed dose is within the permissible range, and providing options for therapy details. The system's workflow is illustrated in a process flow diagram, and the development process follows a sprint cycle comprising assess, select, develop, and review modules. ANALYSIS DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A PROCESS USING
PROCESS FLOW AND USING SPRINT CYCLE 1
Proposed System to treat mental patients.
The automated system has frontend screens and backend the database which also contains
patient’s record.
Task 1 Change Dose According to prescription
1. In case of existing patient, the operator has to search by patient id which is a unique key and
option medication. There are two options Inquiry and Exit.
2. The system will display the patient history.
The system will allow changes by adding new information.
After entering the details the operator has to enter UPDATE YES/NO.. If option is YES The
system will throw back the screen for confirmation. If confirmed the Option Next appears..
3. The operator has to press Next to get the next screen to select the type of psychic disorder
from the drop-down menu.
4. After selecting the type of disorder, system will prompt next.
System will ask whether medication is required, not required, both. In case the option is not
selected, the system will show therapy otherwise it will display options of medicine.
Task 2 Formulary Section
1 This section deals with search the name of medicine by using wildcard entries. The operator
has to select first five character of the medicine like “ANTID” for antidepressants or “ANTIP”
for antipsychotic.The database expects the characters to be entered in capital. If entered in small
letters system will convert to capital. If search result is positive system will display full name of
the medicine, its composition, minimum and maximum dose.
Task 3 Dose Checking
1. The operator has to verify if the name of the medicine tallies. If NO the system will go back to
step 1 of Task 2. If YES the operator has to enter the dose prescribed by the doctor. System will
validate the dose entered by the operator whether it is within maximum or minimum defined in
the system. If the dos is beyond this range, system will display “Dose beyond permissible range”
and the curser will stand at the dose data position. If the operator enters value within the range it
will proceed further or he has to enter “9999” to exit from this option and the control will go
back to step 1 of task 1.If he wants to exit from the system, he has to use exit option in Task 1
option EXIT. If correct dose is entered., system will proceed to option 3 of Task 3.
2 Under option therapy a memo box will be opened and the operator has to enter the details of
doctor’s prescription.
There is an option OK or CHANGE . In case of change the system will throw back the screen for
further update.

3. In case of OK database update will be performed and the prescription will be generated..

Figure – 2 Sprint Cycle
The sprint cycle contains four modules. Access, select, develop and review. The assess module
reviews backlogs. The selection phase involves project team to modify system requirements.
Develop module takes care of the development part. Review model allows testing and if further
change is required it will go through the same cycle till it is stabilized and the project will be
finished.2
