Reflection
I have experienced numerous aspects in my work experience. The experience was
associated with the positive and negative elements equally. I have faced positive as well as
negative elements. However, both the aspects has been proven effective enough for me in terms
of enhancing my professional development. In order to describe my reflection I will use John's
model of reflection (Agarwal and Rawekar, 2020). The model was mainly developed for nursing
sector. This model is mainly based on the five question that enables in breaking down experience
in different parts. This model provides effective base in terms of highlighting reflection. This
model is mainly parted into five parts and those are, description of the experience, refection,
influencing factors, could I have deal with it better and last aspect is learning (Ogbunugafor,
2020).
The first stage is associated with the description of the experience (Rasheed, Younas and
Sundus, 2019). Thus, my experience was related to providing mentoring and training to the staff
in health care. The experience was concerned with guiding healthcare workers so, they can
effectively perform their practice. The experience was entitled with the positive and negative
elements. As at initial stage I was not able to understand the opinion of my team members.
However, I have a thought that I am the mentor therefore, they should follow my orders. Also,
the another aspect of the experience was concerned with understanding the opinion of the staff
and on the basis of that the guidance has been given to them. One incident that I will always
remember from this experience is that, one of the healthcare worker said to me that “I want to
learn many things from you as you have motivated and influenced me”. Here, I got emotional as
my work has recognised and this has made me more confident. However, I have faced numerous
hurdles as well but, the positive comments has helped me in keeping my confidence alive.
In context of refection which is second phase of model that is aligned with the things that
I wanted to achieve along with the consequences (Bjerkvik and Hilli, 2019). Thus, my major
goal was that I want to assure effective mentoring to all staff and want to understand their
opinions. However, at initial stage my mentality was that staff members must follow my order as
I am their mentor. However, later I realised that it is the duty of leader that they must understand
their team members as it helps in implementing effective interaction (Welp and et.al., 2018).
When I changed my mentality the consequences was different. The results become positive.
However, when I was not performing any effort in regards of understanding staff members at

that time the outcomes was negative. Often, the staff members was hesitating in terms of
discussing their issues with me. Due to this the things that has been explained by me in training
session remained unclear to them. Thus, The results of this was negative. Thus, later on the
positive approach by me has provided me positive results.
There were numerous factors that has influenced my decision-making in the work
experience. Those factors were associated with my thoughts and opinions. During my experience
I got to know that, I need to assure focus over solving the issues of my staff members as I am
providing mentoring and training to them and therefore, it is my duty to understand their flaws
and issues (Moreland, Levine and Wingert, 2018). This has been realised by me at that moment
when I saw that, one of the staff member was extremely nervous in order to discuss his issue
with me. I told him that share your issues and he was seeing down without saying anything.
There, I got to know that I need to change my behaviour pattern as I am their mentor and if staff
members cannot share their issues and doubts with me then there is no sense of mentoring. Thus,
at that moment I took decision that I will become more open so, my team members can easily
share their doubts with me.
From my experience I have analysed that I could perform many of the things in effective
manner if I have made focus over understanding my team members from starting. May-be the
situation in which the staff members become nervous in order to share their doubts was never
existed. Furthermore, effective interaction among me and staff members would be existed
(Helmreich and Schaefer, 2018) Thus, things would be different if I have provided focus over
my behaviour pattern from initial stage. Often, training to the members can be assured in
effective manner within discussing their opinion as well. Another thing that could become better
was entitled with creation of the bond with the staff members as effective interaction with staff
members leads to solve their numerous issues and provide them opportunity in order to make
effective learning (Barratt, 2019). Thus, these things could be better if I have assured focus
understanding the staff members. Thus, I have learned numerous things from this experience and
I will apply this learning in my future as well.
The major things that has been changed due to this experience is aligned with the certain
changes that will be adopted by me in order to enhance my professional character. I have learned
the major element that in context of providing mentoring and training to the staff members it is
important to understand their existing knowledge and on the basis of that the decision needs to be
discussing their issues with me. Due to this the things that has been explained by me in training
session remained unclear to them. Thus, The results of this was negative. Thus, later on the
positive approach by me has provided me positive results.
