This dissertation chapter, focusing on research methodology, provides a comprehensive overview of the research process undertaken to investigate the relationship between project manager competencies and project success rates within the Ghanaian mining sector. The chapter details the research philosophy, approach (interpretivism with an inductive approach), and design (case study). It outlines the study population, sampling methods, and the use of questionnaires (LDQ and PSQ) for data collection through interviews. The methodology justifies the use of a qualitative approach and addresses ethical considerations. The chapter also provides a profile of the respondents and concludes with a summary of the research design. The study employed a case study design with five mining companies registered with the Ghana Chamber of Mines in the Western Region to gather data from project managers and contractors, with the intention of generalizing findings to the broader mining sector.
