1.1 Examining the purposes of types of assessment within education and training.
The key purpose of the assessment is that it helps students in learning and also assess
certification progress and accountability of the students in order to support quality education
(Hayward, 2015). The assessment is one of the significant process which helps in assessing the
performance and progress of the student and also determine their increased to make judgements
associated with the learning process.
Formative assessment: This is an informal diagnostic which helps teacher in carrying out a
process evaluation of the student. It comprises of range of formal and informal assessment which
has been carried out by the teacher at the time of learning process through the attainment and
goals of the student.
Summative assessment: Summative assessment is useful within the education training where
the key focus is associated with the outcome of the program. Summative assessments are of high
point value.

Formative assessment: It is considered to be as an integral part associated with the learning
process. It tends to occur frequently at the time of course of instruction.
Summative assessment: It is considered to be as a continuous and systematic process. It is

major weakness associated with the formative assessment is that, it is a time consuming
process because of repeatedly checking the student’s learning.
Summative assessment: The key strength of the summative assessment is that it helps in
measuring the achievement of the student dedicated within instructional period (Rodríguez-

learning. It is disruptive for the students.

impromptu quizzes, anonymous voting. The teachers also carries out short comparative
assessment, one minute paper on subject matter, silent classroom polls, etc. to meet the needs of
individual learner.
Summative assessment: The teacher mainly carries chapter test, end of unit test, final projects,
standardized test and achievement test meet the needs of individual learner (Rodríguez-Gómez
and Ibarra-Sáiz, 2015).
From the conducted study it has been summarized that, these assessment are considered to be
highly beneficial in evaluating and measuring the performance of the student associated with the
subjects.
