INTRODUCTION
Personal development is a lifelong process that cover activities which are required for
an individual to improve identity, talent, quality of life, human capital and so on (Karttunen,
2018). This is a self-analysis process through which an individual can analyse their skills and
capabilities in order to make appropriate changes in themselves on the basis of future
requirement. Analysis of career option is required for an individual after the successful
completion studies. This report is also based on my own analysis in order to develop my
professional career in retail industry on the position of a manager in a well-known
organisation. Thus, this report is going to determine own skills and knowledge that I have as
well as requirement of improvement for the development of myself professionally.
MAIN BODY
Personal analysis
Personal analysis includes goals and objectives that individual wants to attain as well
as skills to master them or habits for the development. Identification of skills aid to set goals
that will boost employability opportunities, increase motivation, contribute to a more
satisfying and improved quality of life. For me it is required to implement personal analysis
approach through which I can easily improve Self-awareness that assist me to analysing areas
for improvement. My professional goal and objectives is to becoming a successful manager
in the retail industry. Thus, for this, it is required for me to analyse areas of my skill and
knowledge that can aid me to develop my professional career appropriately. My self-analysis
activities are determine below as:
Skills:
Communications skills: For an individual, it is required to pay their maximum
attention towards the improvement of their communication because it enables us to
pass information to others (Doyle, 2019). I analysed that I have a good
communication skill that assist me to develop a proper coordination with others. To
becoming a successful manager, it is required for me to develop my communication
skill at a professional level through which I can develop a command over my
subordinates. A good communication skill will also assist me to ensure that I am able
to transmit and receive information effectively.
Decision-making skills: It is not an easy task for anyone to make effective decision.
For each and every individual, it is required to make decision on the basis of different

situations (Powell and McGrath, 2019). Some people making wrong decisions by
endlessly searching more information or by getting recommendation by others. I
analysed that, I always take decision by analysing situation appropriately. According
to me, a good decision making involves choosing a possible solution to a problem.
Thus, to becoming a successful manager, it is required for me to improve my decision
making skills so that I can take proper decision which can be based on difficult
situation.
Problem-solving abilities: An individual can benefit from having a good problem
solving skill that assist to encounter problems on daily basis. According to my past
experience I analysed that I am good in resolving issues and problems which are
related to my personal life. I also provide suggestion to my friends that how they can
resolve their problems by analysing reason behind it. These kind of approaches can
assist me to resolve business related issues by analysing trends of retail industry. It is
required skill in a manager to manage own and business related problems in effective
and efficient manner.
Time management skills: For a manager, it is required to manage business activities
within a set time period. On the basis of this, they can attain maximum success and
can gain desired profitability easily. I analysed that my time management skill is not
so efficient which are required in a manager but I can manage my whole work within
a given time duration. To becoming a successful manager, it is required for me to
analyse solution of those activities that consumes maximum time. On the basis of this,
I can manage my time by dividing time on the basis of work priority.
Numeracy skill: Many professions required at least basic level of understanding and
knowledge of numeracy and mathematics. To becoming a successful manager in retail
industry, it is required for me to improve my numeracy skill to analyse market share
of firm, cost division activities, to understand reports and graphs which are based on
industry. Thus, I needs to improve my numeracy skill so that I can attain desired
success in my professional career.
Knowledge:
Technical knowledge: This is a knowledge and capability of individual to perform
field specific and specialized task appropriately. To becoming successful manager, it
is required for me to gain my technical knowledge as market analysis, target customer
analysis, demand analysis, work coordination and so on. Thus, I need to develop

organisational development practices through which target objectives can be

Customer analysis: These are some general areas in which a manager required sharp
knowledge (Sousa and Rocha, 2019). While running a business it is required for a
manager to analyse who are the customer, their requirements and changes in their
demand which are based on market trends. I want to build my career in retail industry
thus I develop myself to analyse my customers and their demands.
Resource management: It is not only required for a manager but also important for
an individual to manage their existing resources appropriately. These kind of activities
assist to maximise opportunities to getting desired outcomes easily. In terms of
managing resources, I always utilize my existing capability to attaining desired
outcomes appropriately.
Quality control: For a successful manager of an organisation, it is required for an
individual to enhance knowledge of quality control in order to effective management
of business cost. In this regard, I always enhance my knowledge to manage quality of
my work. These kind of practices assist me gaining profitable outcomes in more
effective manner.
Marketing and promotion: To becoming a successful manager, I enhance my
knowledge in marketing, market development and promotional activities. These kind
of activities assist me in developing my professional career appropriately to becoming
a successful manager.
