INTRODUCTION
Digital disruption can be defined as changes that may affect technology markets and
other related aspects such as industry and process. This is a major hurdle in achieving business
goals. Transformation takes place due to new digital technologies and business models.
Furthermore, innovations can impact value of goods and services sold in a particular industry.
The company chosen in this report is DPD having headquarters at Issy les Moulineaux, France.
Furthermore, the report covers definition of digital disruption, its impact on business and how it
is used as business tool. In addition to this, definition of questionnaire and its objectives,
sampling technique and how digital disruption affects the chosen organization, decision making,
jobs, skills including future jobs.

Overview of company
DPD is a company engaged in the business of parcel delivery service. It delivers 5.2
million parcels across the world on daily basis. It is located in France and dominantly provides
this service through express road-based market.

Disruption in literal sense, may have different meanings, in context to digital it has been
defined as “the rapidly unfolding processes through which digital innovation comes to
fundamentally alter historically sustainable logics for value creation and capture by unbundling
and recombining linkages among resources or generating new ones.”

Digital disruption is about changes in existing technologies through innovations. It has
huge impact on the business of organizations due to emerging new digital revolution. Areas like
productions, relations with customers, operations etc. gets affected. It involves risk which may
provide positive as well as negative outcomes. On looking at earlier times, business has changed
dramatically because of such transformation to a considerable extent.
Furthermore, some of the sectors had to undergo changes to have a pace with new
technologies. The new business models make it easy for companies to sell and available their
goods at noticeable low cost. Along with this, it brings more opportunities which were lacking

previously under old models. It also make entities to have dominance in the market. It can be
best understood with instance of auto motive industry, through digital disruption, they are
manufacturing self-driven, electric and hydraulic cars which have added features.
In other words, it can be said that, digital disruption, reshape value chains and markets.
Along with this, expansion of business in new geographical ranges become easy together with
introduction of products or services. Also, cyber security is increased which encourage
customers to use online facility, this resolves number of queries and other issues. More so, it
provides number of opportunities such as:
 lower cost: it will cut out costs by eliminating or reducing number of intermediaries
 constructive approach to customer demand: digital disruption helps in ascertaining
requirements of target audience to make products accordingly.
 better utilisation of assets: the available assets and resources can be utilised in a better
way.
Digital disruption often speed up the whole business processes. If DPD brings a
innovation which can be termed as digital disruption, then its competitiveness and customer base
will be increased.

Data refers to information or statistics in both qualitative and quantitative forms that
helps a business in understanding number of aspects. It is gathered through different sources
which can be either directly such as questionnaire, survey etc. or indirectly. It is used to attain
certain objectives of a business. An organization uses data for various reasons which could range
from analysing consumers' tastes and preferences, their behaviour, perceptions about the
company, and many more aspects. It helps in making better decisions which will provide results
in the favour of an enterprise. For example, DPD is planning to have a artificial intelligence
system in the form of drone system to delivers its packages within local range. This is an
emerging digital technology transformation which has not been used in shipping company.
Hence, before making such major alterations which would require a good amount of investment,
it can include data. Data regarding demands of customers, awareness about drones and its
mechanism, technical failure, average time to deliver parcels etc. All the above-mentioned data
will give DPD an idea about the proposal so that it can decide whether to proceed with the same
or not. Customers are the most important element and it becomes imperative to analyse their

behaviour and demands which can affect the business majorly. It helps in carrying every day
operations. Data are processed into knowledge which is applied in resolving variety of conflicts.
In nutshell, it enhance effectiveness and efficiency in the management. The other purposes for
using data are as follows:
 Improving customer experience by understanding their demands in a better way.
 This helps in mapping the activities so that strategies can be adjusted according to
requirements.
 Conversion of data into cash-flow, this means that the data gathered must be used to
create opportunities for earning more profits.
Data is treated as foundation on which other aspects rely. It is used in all types of
organizations irrespective of its size and nature.

A questionnaire is defined as structured form containing questions to collect information
from various respondents. It can be in written or printed form presented in a formalized way.
Furthermore, the questions are asked about a particular topic. It is treated as a technique in which
questions are expressed in a specific sequence. The ultimate objective is to have information
which can be used in number of purposes. It has two purposes to serve which may be qualitative
and quantitative. Furthermore, the questions can be close ended or open ended. In other words,
its main purpose is to know have an interaction with people to gather their thoughts about
specific matter.

Sampling is a techniques which is used in research to gather data to be used for getting
results. There are different techniques under this which may be used to according to need and
suitability. In this report, random sampling has been used.

Random sampling is a type of sampling under which the chances of each unit or sample
is equal. In other words, a sample can be selected randomly which is meant to represent total
population. It is very simple and easy to collect data from total population. Each member of the
subset carries an equal opportunity of being chosen as a part of sampling process. It an effective
way as it limits or removes voluntary answers. DPD has selected this technique to get accurate
and reliable responses which can be used in making number of decisions related to its plans.
Furthermore, it is not possible to go and ask questions from each individuals, thus, this technique
gave a result close to the expected outcomes. The advantages and disadvantages of this technique
has been explained below:
Advantages:
 Lack of bias: Every unit is a subset of all the groups exist in total population who are
chosen at a random basis. There is an equal chance of every individual of being selected.
Thus, it provides a balanced subset who can give potential response by representing
larger groups.
 Simplicity: It involves less complexity as compared to other methods. The only step is to
choose sample at random basis.
 Requires less knowledge: There is no need to have particular knowledge about concepts.
This involves two things which are asking questions and collecting data.
 Outcomes are applied to whole population: Due to absence of prejudices, the data
gathered reflects a generalised view.
Disadvantages:
 No additional knowledge: There could be instances whereby researchers may have to
access to additional knowledge to get more accurate results.
 Time consuming method: Every individual is interviewed individually which can take
number of months to wind up the whole process. More time could be required in case the
answers get influenced by others.
 Requirement of high skill level: There must be some experience to conduct the survey
through random sampling. It is needed to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant data
for getting more accurate and reliable results.
 Huge cost: The involvement of cost is huge together with time cost which is utilised in
carrying out the survey.

 Large sample size is mandatory: The subset must be taken from larger group which can
be used to extract units. Thus, it is compulsory for a larger group to be present.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that digital disruption is a wider concept
which is beyond innovation. Its impact should be considered while making innovation in the
existing process and practices. Furthermore, this can bring both positive or negative results
which means that opportunities can be created also loss can be occurred. There is high risks
involved which should be predicted and adjustments must be made. Together with this,
collection of data is important for obtaining the outcomes which can be applied in carrying
business.
