CONTEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS
Purpose of self-reflection
I am writing this reflection in order to analyze my relationship with the colleagues. Along
with this, one of the other purposes of writing this reflection is to assess my workplace relations
from other perspectives. This is in terms of enhancing my thinking skills from the perspective of
an employer. At the initial stage, I selected managerial relationship and customer relationship for
reflection. This selection helped me to narrow down my search on employment relations. I think
narrowing down the search is important in terms of producing straightforward responses to the
requirements.
Employment relations
I think relations are a crucial aspect within employment. The employees need to have a
firm grasp over the concept of employment relationship. Herein lays the role of the employer,
who makes the employees acquainted with the workplace conditions. This is in terms of
managing the relationships in an efficient and effective manner. I am really concerned that lack
of understanding can adversely affect the productivity of the companies and organizations.
Therefore, stability needs to be maintained in the relationship between the professionals in the
workplace.
Theoretical considerations help in achieving a greater understanding about the
relationships, which persists in the workplace. These theories are radical, Unitarianism and
Pluralist. I feel exposing a theoretical approach helps in taking a different perspective about the
behavior of the personnel in the workplace. Business in the present age is associated with
enhancing the profit margin. If this is done by exerting pressures on the trade union members, it

would result in conflicts. These conflicts contradict the aspect of professionalism in the
workplace behavior. I think application of efficient and effective regulatory practices have
enabled the companies and organizations to enhance the aspect of corporate governance.
I feel managers play the crucial role in maintaining the stability in the relationship with
the clients and the customers. Here, I can relate the contracts, which reflects the legal obligations
regarding valuing the opinions of the stakeholders and shareholders. I think if the employers
engage in contracts with the trade union members, it would be beneficial in terms of enhancing
the awareness of the employees. This is in terms of coping up with the external pressures.
New ideas and formal observations
Theoretical considerations
The concept of employment relationship can be seen from three approaches- pluralism,
Unitarianism and radical. Out of these, pluralism is the most effective theoretical concept.
According to my opinions, diversity is important in terms of maintaining the stability in the
relations of the professional field. This is because diversity enhances the perspectives of the
employees and aligns them with the workplace environment. I think pluralism makes the
personnel aware of the techniques for improving their communication skills. Specially, I can
make mention of dialogues, self-criticism and encounter. The employers need to engage the
employees in group discussions, as it enhances the workplace diversity.
I feel self-criticism is an innovative aspect to reflect. This is in terms of generating self-
introspection skills for altering the current personality. Here, the interaction between the two
selves helps me to reach to the correct decision. I also think that consideration of colleagues’
interest is essential in terms of averting the instances of conflicts, discriminations and

harassments in the workplace. However, consent of the managerial authorities is necessary for
protecting the individual sentiments of the personnel. I am concerned at the consequences, when
the trade union members are provided with the authority to take the decisions for the betterment
of the companies and organizations. This authority is effective as it represents the collective
interest of the staffs, enhancing the aspect of collaborative output. Here, I can relate the 3c
model. I can a moderator between the employees and the management.
I can also relate pluralism as the different socio-cultural backgrounds from where the
employees belong. They have different interests, needs, demands and requirements. However,
when they are in the workplace, the employees are expected to represent as one power in terms
of fulfilling the identified goals and objectives. For completion of the projects, I feel the
employees need the assistance of their colleagues. I think understanding is crucial in this aspect.
The employees need to understand that the others are not perfect. It might be the fact that they
lack the necessary skills. According to me, unity and cooperation is the key towards enhancing
the professional relations. As an employer, I need to ensure that the employees co-ordinate with
each other for exposing teamwork. Patience is crucial, as it would add value to my role in the
workplace.
I think permission, grants and allowances are a vital issue, which the team leaders need to
remember. Taking permission from the higher authorities before executing the tasks prove
effective in terms of averting the illegal instances. This permission helps the managers to
respond to the queries of the clients regarding the completion of the orders. According to me, this
communication helps the managers to maintain the stability in the relationship with the clients.
This is also an indication of enhancing the professionalism within the employment. Apart from
this, this approach is also effective in terms of mitigating conflicts within the workplace. I need

to pass on the queries of the employees to the management. Prior to this, informing the
management is necessary in terms of the issues, which they are facing while executing the
business activities. Sending the queries is the sequential step after the managers send approval
for the drafts.
Delving deep into the issue, conflicts are an inevitable issue in the workplace. This is in
terms of the cultural diversity within the workplace. I think the managers need to pay special
attention towards respecting the religious sentiments of the employees. For example, if there are
restrictions on the dress code of the employees, it indicates an intervention into their religious
and traditional sentiments. Harshness in this restriction compels the managers to encounter
instances of conflicts, discriminations and harassments. I think negotiation is the effective
solution for maintaining peace within the workplace environment. I need to make attempts for
resolving the conflicts internally before approaching the management. This would enhance my
personality before the management. Along with this, it would also enhance my thinking skills.
Finding the resources
I feel persistent attitude of the employees towards fulfilling the goals is one of an
efficient means for the employees, in terms of enhancing their relationship with the managers.
During the induction training, the employees need to be made aware of their roles within the
workplace. I think culture plays an important role in the training lectures. However, prior to this
training, the employees need to be assisted so that they can adjust within the workplace
ambience. Exposure of a pleasing personality can make me approachable to the employees. This
is specifically applicable for the new joinees as they are unfamiliar with the organizational
norms. According to my opinion, if we expose conscious and rational approach in this direction,
then the employees experience a familial feeling in the workplace. This comfortness is required

only in the initial stages. Consistency in the provision of the comfort can obstruct the
professional development of employees.
I wonder at the diversified nature of the resources, which helps the organization in
producing quality products. Here, teamwork is needed for completing the orders within the
stipulated time. This teamwork strengthens the bondage between the employees. Along with this,
it also helps the managers in enhancing the stability in the relationship with the stakeholders and
shareholders. I have realized that the relationship between the employees and the managers is the
most effective one in the professional field. This is because review of the employee performance
enables the managers to make estimates regarding the completion of the projects and their
delivery to the clients. I think giving practical demonstration to the employees would be helpful.
This is in terms of teaching them the judicious use of the resources. Sending reports of their
performance to the managers would be assistance in terms of appraising their performance.
I am confident that training enhances the preconceived skills, expertise and knowledge of
the employees. Inclusion of culture, behavior within the training lectures makes the employees a
good human being. If the managers emerge successful in inculcating the moral values within the
employees, it would enhance their belief and capability in terms of carrying out the challenging
and enduring tasks. This belief is important for the managers regarding the escalation of the sales
revenue and profit margin. I think belief is also a crucial aspect for the employees in terms of
carrying out self-evaluation. This is in terms of assessing the effectiveness, appropriateness and
feasibility of the performance exposed in the workplace. One of the interesting points, which I
can relate here, is that self-introspection, enhances the thinking skills of the employees. This
enhancement results in the outpour of creative and innovative ideas for the producing quality

goods and services. Typical example can be the provision of self-assessment exercise sheets to
the employees.
One of the other issues, which I think is important here, is the motivation. The managers
need to provide adequate encouragement and motivation to the employees so that they may feel
the urge to carry out the allocated duties and responsibilities diligently. If the employees are
adequately motivated then they would transfer the skills to their colleagues. This transfer would
be result in the promotion of the workplace culture. I think this is one of the best ways for
enhancing the reputation of the company and organization. I feel counseling sessions can be
helpful for the employees in voicing out their opinions regarding the workplace environment,
This would be beneficial for me in terms of assessing the effectiveness of my role as an
employer.
Issues in employment relationship
Involvement of the employees in the process of developing policies enhances the unity
and coordination. All of the personnel ought to abide by the rules and regulations. This is in
terms of averting any illegal instances. However, issues would arise within the workplace
activities. The managers and the employees need to expose tactful approach towards achieving
the means of negotiation. Here, I can relate the theory of planned action and theory of reasoned
behavior. The example of planned action is planning the rules by bearing in mind the socio-
cultural background of the employees. I need to maintain stable relationship with the
management. This would act as an example for the employees in terms of maintaining the unity
and coordination between them.

I think non-compliance to the legal norms like Employment Law stalls the normalcy of
the workplace. If there is unity within the team members, effective solutions spring up. I think
section 7 of the civil rights is important for the managers in terms of maintaining their image
among the employees. If I adhere to the legislations while giving employment to the employees,
they would get assurance regarding the quality services.
Conclusion
After reflecting on the case study of employment relations from the perspective of an
employer, I can conclude that mutual understanding is essential. This is in terms of respecting
and valuing the sentiments of the employees. I think rationality is important here in terms of
coming out with something creative and innovative. This creativity and innovation is the
keystone towards attracting large number of customers. I also feel that legal obligations are
necessary in terms of enhancing the workplace relations. Training is a vital aspect for moulding
the employees towards the workplace environment. Within this, motivation and encouragement
is essential for generating an urge within the employees towards the efficient execution of the
business activities. Including the aspect of workplace culture is crucial in terms of enhancing the
diversity in the professional relationships.
