PART A: The Organization (can be real of fictional) (3 marks)
Name of organization: The Loblaw Companies Limited
Brief background: One of the leading food retailer organization of Canada, with its headquarter
in Toronto. It has 22 regional markets. Though the major chain of the organisation is food
retailing, but the organization is also involved into pharmacies, apparels and banking sector. The
organization also includes grocery items and baby products.
PART B: The Organizational Behavioural (OB) Problem (1 mark)
The Organizational Behavioural (OB) problem we will be analyzing is: Poor communication and
feedback system.
PART C: Diagnosis - The Underlying Issues (6 marks)
The three underlying issues that are contributing to/causing this OB problem are:
1) The organization is facing an extremely poor goal management system within the
organization. As according to the employees of the organization, the job description provided
the organization was not proper and clear and therefore, the organizational objectives are not
transparent, or has not been made transparent to them (Mishra, Boynton, & Mishra,, 2014).
2) Another reason is the poor leadership structure. As according to Taylor, the organizations
must be experiencing a scientific management system which includes a systematic and
leadership structure, and according to the researchers the considered organization lacks an
effective leadership structure (Cobley, & Schulz, 2013).
3) There are also issues at the managerial level in maintaining or acknowledging the challenges
of cultural diversity. Considering the theory of Deetz, the organizational managers clearly
fails to control and manage the situations of diversity which therefore magnifies the
communication challenge (Cobley, & Schulz, 2013). The diversified employee base affects the
organizational processes thus negatively affecting the production.
