EFFECTIVE BUSINESS COMMUNICATION 2
Effective business communication is the transfer or exchange of data between two parties
or entities effectively and is easily understand by everyone involved (Adler et al, 2015). Here are
some of the Importance of effective business communication;
i. It is the building block of an organization
ii. Effective communication helps the company run smoothly
iii. Effective communication also acts as a source of information in an organization
iv. It enables socializing since no company can thrive in isolation
v. It is also instrumental in governing the company (Guffey & Loewy, 2015)
Here are the three points that I have learned about effective business communication.
There are several types of business communication which include;
Internal, upward communication
Internal, upward communication is the type of communication that occurs between a
manager and someone up the organizational hierarchy and a subordinate. This is the type of
communication that flows upwards in terms of hierarchy (Bovée, Thill, & Raina, 2016).
Internal downward communication
Internal downward communication is the type of business communication that comes
from a superior or manager to one or more subordinates. This type of communicates mostly
comes in form of a letter, verbal directive or memos.
Internal lateral communication
Internal lateral communication is the type of communication that occurs between co-
workers in the office. This type of communication can either be cross- department or internal
department communication.
The significance of effective communication plays a significant role in building good
relationship between the stakeholders of a business. As a result, effective communication
contributes in growing the customer base, business partnership, increased productivity as well as
facilitating innovations (Prentiss & Walton, 2019).
Practical example- The department of sales and advertising has just scored a big contract
with the Coca-Cola Company and everyone is required at a certain time so that they can discuss
the strategies on how they are going to handle it so the head of department will communicate that
to everyone through a memo or via email.
