Over the years, there have been a considerable enhancement in the globalised
business practices and complexities in the business environment. Consequently, the managers
are exposed to the enhanced challenges which must be addresses by the formulation of
efficient business strategies (Grant, 2016). Before the study of the course modules, my
knowledge of management of the organisations was limited to the giving instructions to the
subordinates for the achievement of the revenue objectives of the business. I viewed an
organisation as simply as an organised hierarchal structure that is engaged together in an
industry or a sector. However, an organisation is not as simple as it sounds, and is comprised
of numerous distinct resources, and the chief one is the people. The said course enhanced my
understanding of the various aspects of the management as described below.
The modules addressed the various aspects of the modern management starting with
the different nature of the organisations. I studied the significance of the understanding of the
nature and size of the organisation, before formulation of the business strategies. The module
1.1 extended my understanding of the role of the managers, which is not facilitating the
revenue earning objectives only; rather a manager must be considerate of the varied interests
of the different stakeholder groups. In addition to the above, the course so far enabled me to
understand the various challenges faced by the managers in the light of the globalised
business environment. Hence, I understood that the chief role of the managers is not only
limited to formulate the business objectives and provide instructions for the achievement of
the same. Instead, the managers must continue assess the internal and external environments
and review the earlier formulated business strategies to address the changes (Rosenbach,
2018). Hence, the module 1.1 aided me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the
dynamic external business environment.
In contrast to the above, the module 1.2 aided me to gain an understanding of the role
of the managers in the internal business environment. The role of the manager is critical as he
or she establishes a link between the business objectives and the individuals who are
employed in the entity. In addition, when the managers lead from the front, there is
established a certain corporate culture in an entity that gets aligned with the individual job
roles and professional standards. I had a limited understanding of the strategies that can be
employed by the managers to motivate the employees in the teams. I understood that it is
significant for the managers to bind the various members of the team belonging to the
different culture, motivation levels, and the experiences. The above awareness of the ways to
lead a team would aid me in the actual corporate environment, as I aspire to work for a global

multinational organisation in future. In addition, I understood the fact that the power to lead a
team or an entity comes with a sense of responsibility to manage the interests as well as the
objectives in a manner that both move towards a same direction.
Further, the module 2 aided me to understand the vitality of the communication within
an enterprise. The efficient communication is crucial and is rightly regarded as blood of
organisation, as more or less each of the organisation function is dependent upon efficient
interaction within and outside the organisation (Voegtlin, Patzer & Scherer, 2012). The
module 2 prepared me for carrying out communication with the various stakeholders and
chiefly with the senior management and the employees. I understood the significance of
downward communication in the form of feedbacks from the team members and the
customers. Hence, communication plays an important role for the managers not only in
context of the external environment, but also in terms of motivating and resolution of
conflicts of the employees.
Thus, while I had limited understanding of the job role of the managers, the course
enhanced my knowledge of the same and prepared me to face the corporate challenges more
efficiently. I can confidently state that not only my writing skills, but also the written
communication skills have improved considerably with the course so far. I enjoyed learning
the theoretical aspects in the practical application manner. Overall, my learning and
personality curve has improved significantly. Hence, the learnings gained from the various
chapters of the module would stay with me and aid me to be an efficient manager.
