Business Decision Analytics 3
Introduction
Decision making style is an important factor that shows one’s personality. It is the
process of selecting an approach from several alternatives to solve an issue or to make
something done (Connor & Becker, 2003). Taking decision in difficult situations reflects
one’s place in the future (Mahmood, 2012). In the business field, effective decision-making
skill of leaders and employees decides survival of the firm.
This report is done to acknowledge my decision-making style by analysing it with the
help of tools such as Myers and Briggs personality test, Johari Window test and Gallup
Clifton test. Analysis of four weeks has been considered to evaluate my decision-making
skills. The factors that influences me most while taking any decision is also included in the
report with respect to business context. As I am leader of a team in my workplace, it is easy
to analyse usage of decision-making tool in my decisions and taking feedbacks of the same
from people around me.
Decision actually made during a one-week period
Several decisions are made in one’s day-today life. Some of the decisions are so
common that people even do not notice that they are taking one. The simplest example of
taking decision is selecting meal of the day. In the first week of analysis, my team was facing
difficulty to conduct a meeting with four clients of the company together. The difficulty was
to select a place for the meeting that is approachable for all the four clients. As they were at
distant from each other, it was hard to find a single place. I selected a place where most of
them can come and others can join through video conferencing. As the topic of meeting was
so sensitive, video conferencing was not considered earlier but considering urgency of the
matter I decided the most possible way that can fulfil both the demands of the meeting.

Major decision made
During fourth week, the company was planning to tie-up with three small companies
to increase its service area. The tie-ups with these small companies required a large scale of
financial analysis and their reports within three days. It was very hard to complete the task in
given time. There was panic environment in the workplace and that affected work efficiency
of team members. To solve the issue, I decided to hire a temporary analyst for the particular
task. This decision was taken by considering work load, shortage of time for the task,
company’s expenditure and discussion with supervisors.
In the same week team members were facing communication difficulties, as some of
the members were new and from different places with different pronunciation. It became
difficult to share and understand views from those team members. It was important to take
quick decision as there was shortage of time for the given task. To resolve the issue, I
convinced all the members to use written communication method, so that misunderstanding
can be neglected.
Decision making preferences
Situations in the past experienced by me plays an important role in taking difficult
decisions. Decision-making preference is an important factor in every aspect of my life.
While taking any decision, I do not get influenced by others, however I take advices from the
experts in the field and also consider each advise comes in the way in my final decision.
Analysis of different aspects and situations is done before taking any difficult decisions.
Observation plays important role in my decision-making process. The steps of finding
solutions for any issue includes analysis of the issue, observation of alternatives, comparison
with past experience and consideration of all possible solutions. Emotions plays least part in
my decision-making style, but the decisions are more framed towards concepts, analysis and
logics. Everyone prefer different ways to take their decisions, I use analytical and conceptual

methods to take decisions for me as well as for my team. I believe in team work and I often
push and motivate the team members. I believe in taking quick decisions by using rational
data processing (Jhon & Knoll, 2011).
Personality style/strength and their impact on my decision-making style, bias and blind-spot
According to Myers and Briggs personality test result I have Protagonist (ENFJ-T)
personality. In this type people have strong personality and are unafraid of taking difficult
decisions whenever it is needed. They are good leaders and take full responsibility of
decisions they take and its resultant. Considering my decision-making style, Myers
personality test covering analysis of mind, energy, nature, tactics and identity shows straight
reflection of my personality (16personalities, 2020).
According to strength test, solving problems by analysing its symptoms and by
focusing on area of issues is one of my strengths. I am the person that believes in itself by
considering every opportunity that comes in the way. Self-motivation and inner confidence
are the keys that push me to take difficult decisions. I believe in taking charge of the team, so
that I can analyse the issues the team is facing and can decide relevant solutions. According
to the test leadership is also one of my strengths. Also, as per the test I am thinker and
barnstormer.
Johari window test is done to evaluate bias and blind spot of my personality that are
reflected in my decision-making processes (Kevan.org, 2006). The test is done by taking
feedback of some people around me. Overthinking about an issue or any difficult situation
can be considered as my bias and blind spot. According to Johari window test, accepting,
cheerfulness, friendly, independent, observant and patient are the terms that comes in my
blond spot. I take decisions considering facts and practical knowledge related to the issue but

sometimes the implementation of decisions get affected by blind spot, mostly due to
overthinking.
Reflection of feedbacks and use of decision-making tools to make decisions
I have taken feedbacks from team members and classmates for the report. Some of the them
thinks that I take decisions without considering any one’s emotions and I take decisions only
by analysing practical aspects. Some of the others thinks I carefully deal with any issue and
take good decisions. Few of them feels that I overreact to some situations and take decisions
less for the team and more for the organisation. Rest of them feels that my leadership quality
is reflected in my decisions.
Sources of data and use of decision-making tools to make decisions
Facts and concept behind any issues are the keys to solve any problem by taking any
decision. I consult with superiors and experts while taking any decision for the organisation. I
collect data from relevant sources and by analysing it, takes decisions. I use Marginal
analysis as a tool to take my decisions. It provides data of outputs and inputs against the cost
(Streifer, 2004).
