Dear Dr. XXXXX,
I read about your research project on https://www.ucalgary.ca/donglab/research
website and thought that I should initiate to you with an introduction about myself. I found
that you are working at the University of Calgary on the topic of "Bacterial Survival
Mechanisms". I have a great passion for Microbiological science and thus am interested to
work under your guidance since the topic of the study also interests me. I have a great interest
in the internal mechanisms responsible for the survival adaptation of terrestrial bacteria. I
have found that your papers are primarily focused on the explanation of complex internal
regulation methods responsible for the generation of a response to a particular environmental
stimulus. Your studies primarily include the Type Six Secretion System (T6SS) which is
most prevalent in Gram-Negative Bacteria. Some of the topics which interest me are
antagonistic interactions between two of the killer species, identification of the periplasmic
proteins responsible for the survival mechanisms of microbes, studying the interactions
between eukaryotes and microbes and detection of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) in E.coli
treated with polymyxin B. Thus, it can be stated that your studies mainly focus on
microbiological concepts which interest me the most. Thus, after reading your studies, my
interest in microbiology has increased from what it was three years back. I intend to apply to
achieve a degree in Masters in Microbiology in your institution. I am interested to get the
degree under your guidance because of the field of work, which you are studying.
I have completed my Bachelor's degree in Science in Biology department of
Microbiology, Faculty of Science, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia. I have completed my secondary school certificate examination in 2005 from 17th
Secondary School in Makkah with 91% marks, with an excellent grade. I am very much
passionate about microbiological science ever since I have received my bachelor’s degree in
microbiology. I have found that I was able to apply everything that I learned during my

tenure in the graduation course. I have learned most about the roles of a laboratory technician
and I have excelled in organization and negotiation skills. I also have a strong sense of
responsibility and the capacity to do work efficiently under heavy pressure. I have also had
great writing and verbal communication skills. Along with Scientific passion, I also have a
sense of curiosity required to learn about various cultures. This condition has helped me to
discover the world in which we live. Thus, I have decided to progress my career towards
being a travel agent.
Before applying for the post of a student in Masters in Microbiology in your
institution, I was a travel consultant in Travel Expert Inc. Calgary, Canada and I am still
working here. I am still working in an organization in which I started working on 2014. I was
appointed for the role of a travel consultant. My primary roles were to research various
destinations, diagnose clients with specifications and wishes about various travel packages,
organize our travels from beginning to end and attend conferences for the maintenance of
tourism and familiarity trends. Before that, I worked as an office manager in the year 2013.
The organization was named Noor Medical Optical Services, Jeddah, KSA where I was
appointed to maintain the office services by organizing the procedures and operations of the
office. I had to design filing systems, review and approve the supply requisitions, maintain
the efficiency of the office by planning and properly implementing the office systems,
managing and analyzing the official reports, maintain the office staffs by recruiting,
orienting, selecting and training the employees and contributing to the efforts of the team. My
first job was associated directly with my subject of concern, Microbiology. As a clinical
laboratory scientist in Al Borq Medical Laboratories (Accredited by JCI & CAP), Jeddah,
KSA from February to March 2013, I had to ensure timed and accurate test reports. My
primary topic of study was the isolation and identification of bacterial pathogens by
analyzing human blood cultures. I had to perform antibiotic susceptibility testing by Kirby-

Baurer disk diffusion technique bacterial sensitivity test to understand the zone diameter
breakpoints by CLSI. Confirmation of drug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and Gram-negative
rods by using ESBL double disk methods were also included in my list of daily tasks.
Phenotypic identification of hyaline and dematiaceous fungi, which includes dermatophytes
(lactophenol cotton blue) technique was also, including my daily test list. Water microbiology
was also one of my most significant fields of interest in my study which involved the
identification of waterborne pathogens by using MPN (Most Probable Number) and HPC
(Heterotrophic Plate Count) using MF (Membrane Filtration Technique).
My personal skills include the fact that I can speak three languages, English, Arabic,
and Indonesian, have great knowledge of Windows, causal email, ECDL, Microsoft Office
and internet usage. I also have a great cooperative and efficient way of working which allows
me to work with a various organization which requires a cooperative working process. My
hobbies also include reading in various fields, writing, painting, and traveling. Building my
experience with various organizations and clinical laboratories, I have a profound interest to
become a post-graduate with a Masters in Microbiology with a specification in the microbial
survival mechanisms associated with the terrestrial environment. Thus, I would like to know
about the opportunities and findings required to complete my MS in Microbiology at the
University of Calgary under your guidance and supervision.
Thus, I can hope that my resume was a good summary of my background and general
experience. I thank you for taking the time to read my proposal with strong attention. I am
looking forward to hearing from you and start my career as a student of Masters in
Microbiology in your institution under your supervision. I would also like to undergo a Ph.D.
project under your supervision after the completion of my degree in Microbiology MS.
