Middle Class in Jackson’s America and Today’s Middle Class
The newly elected president of America in 1828, Andrew Jackson was from a
common background and much more different from the previously elected presidents.
Jackson influenced society and helped in bringing up the middle-class society. As before
Jackson, the middle class were not allowed cast votes and they were dependent on the
agriculture, But in the Jacksonian Era, the middle class were given the power to cast vote and
the people made many technological advancements within the nation and the also the nation
experienced a rise in middle class, as the people who were not rich, but also not poor were
categorised under middle class or common man (NEH, 2020).
Today’s middle class has been divided into three groups depending upon their source
of income, as working class, lower middle class and Upper middle class, depending upon
their they are classified into different classes. The middle class is free to perform any job
depending upon his kills and the job requirements, whereas during or before Jackson the
middle-class main source of income was agriculture and was not given any political rights in
the case, they do not own land or have a strong background (Picchi, 2018).
