AC 2.1 Evaluate at least two learning theories.
Learning and teaching appears to be a universal experience. The meaning of learning refers to
the process which grooms overall personal and environmental experience by enriching an individual
skill, value, attitude, knowledge, view and behaviour whereas learning theories means the hypothesis
which explain how the particular process takes place. There are primarily four learning theories i.e.
behaviourism, constructivism, cognitivism and kolb's learning cycle. In this report behaviourism and
constructivism theories are going to be discussed.
Constructivism

Constructivism learning theory means that when learners through the self interpretation of the
information rather than just following the given path. According to Piaget, knowledge must be actively
created by the students. The aim of this theory is to promote communication skills through
collaboration in the classroom by sharing their ideas in the group tasks or projects. It aids the student
to develop advanced skills such as analytical thinking, evaluation, intermediary skills and diversified
viewpoints.
Positives of Cognitivism
it helps in enhance life long learning and students are able to build their previous ideas and knowledge.
It also helps in boost confidence of students and improve their problems solving skills as well as helps
to learn new things faster.
Why is this a positive to the learner?
According to my point of view, this approach of learning is beneficial for the learners due to the
advanced learning skills taught during the tasks.
Do you agree with the theory?
Yes, according to me this theory of learning is beneficial for the students because it actively constructs their
knowledge instead of ingesting knowledge with the help of textbooks or teachers.
Can you relate to the theory?
In the classroom, helps students to explain and understand theory helps in enhance knowledge. Ask
students to explain and justify their thinking helps in improve students recall as well as understanding.
Negatives of Cognitivism
The drawback for this theory is that it is time-consuming method as it is a trial-and-error mode and
lack of structure provide an environment which the students cannot be excelled.
Why is this a negative to the learner?
This is negatively to learner because its cannot be measure directly and it is relies on the inference. It
also ignores the other factors of behaviours and it has been shown to affects the behaviours of students.
Document Page
Is there a way that the learner could overcome this?
Learning theory negativism can be overcome with the helps of provide proper environments so,
students are able to excellent the relevant knowledge and ideas.
Do you agree? Link to your opinion - do you agree with them, or do you think they have any issues
that you disagree with?
Yes, I agree with my opinion because the proper structure of environment helps in high controlled
and produce the objective and reliable data.
Overall Opinion
It focuses on the change in knowledge and experience of individuals. There are three components
which are defined the cognitive such as the causes of learners is the experience of learners. Change in
the learner knowledge as well as learning are involves the changes.
Behaviourism
Behaviourism learning theory states that it focused on the idea that learning all behaviour could be
possible by interacting with environment. In other words, it refers to the process where inherited
factors have very less impact on the behaviour and it has to be learned through the environmental
stimuli (Oommen, 2020). Continuous feedback, praising, reward system and positive reinforcement
are the behaviour techniques examples. Learning is not only acquiring new knowledge but to get new
behaviour. During classroom, teachers should restrict themselves in giving too much of negative
feedback and instead of that should focus on to motivate the learners by providing positive feedback.
According to my point of view, I completely agree with this theory as helps the learner to focus on a
single goal. This learning theory emphasize on measuring the objective with the assistance of
reinforcement and punishment.
Positives of Behaviourism
One of the biggest strength of this theory is that it provides an ability to easily observe the behaviour
by conducting the data. Learner can focus on their goals and also emphasize goals and objectives
measurements.
