Introduction
With the advent of globalization, the issue of migration came to the fore front. The
opened territorial boundaries of the countries of the world allowed the people the flexibility to
move to any part of the world that they so desired. This led to the citizens of the developing part
of the world to shift to the developed countries in order to attain a better standard of living.
Discussion
However, a challenge is faced in terms of crisis of migrant integration in developed
countries. The issue of citizenship becomes important in terms of nation building. According to
Bloemraad and Wright (2014), the Turkish Dutch and the Moroccan individuals are found to be
highly influenced by the discourse on the issue of citizenship and its relatedness to belonging to
the nation. The issue of belongingness is largely an emotive and cultural instance since it is a
feeling which is developed over a period of time (Slootman and Duyvendak 2016).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be stated that the migrants face a crisis of such belongingness and
citizenship in the developed countries. With the rise in the spirit of multiculturalism, the migrants
have been further marginalized in the event that they are not viewed as a part of a common
national project.

Response to blog post
Introduction
The aspect of migration has a severe challenge attached to it which is that of integration
and assimilation. Migrants are the people who come from another place and settle down in a host
country, many of them aspiring to gain the permanent citizenship of that place. However, while
this may occur in legal terms, it is not so from a sociological view point.
Discussion
The post believes that the aspect of migration does not take the form of a crisis. However,
this is not true. While the ideals of multiculturalism has indeed arisen and gained a strong foot
hold within the society, the ideas of belongingness and nation is still in existence.
The media has played a preponderant role in generating a negative image of migration.
The social and the cultural differences of the people of Australia with the migrants are
highlighted in some way by such media, leading to the rise in the sense of the ‘other’.
Conclusion
Thus, it can be stated that while the blog is positive in content, it has failed to take into
consideration the negative effects of belongingness. This leads to the generation of the idea of
‘us’ versus ‘them’.
