The article focuses on linking the menace of human trafficking with migration, especially
women.as it talks about the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) and its
publication ‘Collateral Damage’, which was started by a team of women’s rights activist. The
paper acknowledges the link between migration, labour and trafficking, focusing more on
women migrants. It strives to take steps by analyzing the intersection of migration and
trafficking from the point of view of human rights law. The paper tries to see how human-
trafficking framework can boost other related frameworks and the other way round. The paper
lays down various examples of agencies working for women migrants. It also covers different
situations to enhance migrant women’s power to improve their degrading position. It covers the
basic concept of the topic, links trafficking with migration and other issues of a civil society, the
effect of trafficking on women who migrates for the search of means of livelihood. It also
includes application of human rights on this matter, approach of various groups on this issue and
lastly, policies are recommended keeping the issues in mind ("Beyond Borders: exploring Links
between Trafficking and Migration", 2018).
The arguments in the paper is agreeable, as the data are authentic and extremely
convincing. The fact that women migrants are unintentionally stigmatized is surprising. Usually
campaigns on migration and trafficking is majorly focused on women, portrayed as a victim of
exploitation. Photos, videos, projects, campaign messages pertaining to trafficked women forced
into prostitution rackets are highlighted over the other forms of trafficking, like trafficking for
forced labour or organs. The current situation where immigration process is under thorough
scrutiny and restriction due to increased number of trafficking is a matter to focus as well.
Government agencies and NGOs are of the view that immigration should be restricted to fight

trafficking. When the French authorities destructed a migrant camp near the English Channel in
2009, the Home Secretary of the UK said that it was rightly done to diminish illegal immigration,
which adds up to human trafficking. It was a heinous act of the French authority to carry out
such a cruel approach towards the 287 detained immigrants where half of them were minor
("Beyond Borders: exploring Links between Trafficking and Migration", 2018).
The paper talks about the unwelcoming approach of most countries in the world towards
migrants and refugee from all over the globe. It talks about the regressive approach of the
French, English, European and many other countries, which is the exact opposite of the
approach of Canada towards the migrants and refugee. Canada has always been generous
towards the arrival of the migrants from its southern borders. Although there are legislative
supports like the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act of 2003 that restricts the generous
approach of Canada towards migrants. ("Canada's Generous Welcome for Illegal Southern
Border Arrivals Wears Thin", 2018).
The reading would help us, the advocate fraternity to under the issue of human trafficking
pertaining to women migrants better. It would help us to comprehend the link between
trafficking and migration, and fight for their rights in a more humanitarian way. The paper would
help us to understand the gaps of the present regulations that are not being able to protect the
poor trafficked victims. Thus, it gives a way for making improved policies.
