INTRODUCTION
The Millennium Dome is considered as simply as The Dome which is the real name of a
big done shaped building that originally used to house the Millennium experience, a huge
exhibition celebrating the initiating of third millennium. It is famous as the ninth largest building
around the world by functional volume. This is located at the Greenwich Peninsula at the South
East, London, United Kingdom. The exhibition opened for the public from the 1st January 2000
to the 31st December 2000 (Allen and et.al., 2016). The respective exhibition was hardly political
as well as attracts scarcely half of the 12 million audiences which are forecast by its sponsors, so
it is announced by the press that project get failed. The aim of developing this project is to
determine issues behind the failure of the project related to the Millennium Dome. In respect of
this topics covered are related to the project management and its scope and implementation.

ranges which start from simple to the complex as well as it can be managed by an individual or a
group of individual. An organization need to develop effective project so that they can develop
strategies accordingly and attain their desire goal successfully. Furthermore, project management
is determined as application of a procedure, skills, methods, experience and knowledge in order
to attain particular project aim. Project management need to be done according to the criteria of
the project acceptance along with the agreed parameter and time duration. Respective
management also has final deliverable which forced to be finite budget as well as time duration.
The proper plan is necessary for each and every project that can be determined through the
situation of The Millennium Dome as it gets fail because their no proper plan for the project as
well as this will leads to huge loss to government as well as society. According to press the
reason of failure of respective project is lack of vision of management team, poor execution, not
able to manage expectations as well as management also get fail to plan effective for the post
event disposition of the location (Chiponde, Gledson and Greenwood,2019). In addition to this
according to study the main cause of the project failure of The Millennium Dome is that, from
the initial stage respective project is driven by the politicians not by other professional of
commercial or business sector people. Along with this, another main cause of the failure of the
project is funds or financial difficulties, as government also face situation related to lack of funds
then in that situation they get funds from society or public. This show that the team who is
managing the project related to The Millennium Dome not conduct planning properly due to
which time, funds and resource get wasted (Reason for failure of Millennium dome, 2002 ).

Millennium Dome is a type of the project which was a setup by John Major under the
government. This project was to be started by 1st January 2020. In the starting stage of the
project it was a small prospect which was constructed in real to celebrate the millennium third

public to view throughout the year 2020.

over blandness, excellence over mediocrity”
As explained these project was looking very good in the initial stage, so what went wrong? It can
be better be understand by going through the project management theory of 4 stage of project
management and understanding the different issue in that stages and what were the alternative
which can be taken by owner at that point of time.

these project was very good at the initiation stage but the issue which was faced by the project

by the organization in real . Some of the alternative of such a issue is as follow:
Conducting a feasibility study: Conducting a feasibility study for the scope and idea of
Dome would be one of the best way through which organization would have able to overcome
the same issue very easily in the organization. Reason for the same is that as per the theory of
project management it is the in build process in idea selection to have a feasibility study in
regards of objective selected for the project. So conducting a feasibility study would have helped
the organization in investing the money in better way to overcome variety of issue.
Better market research: It is another alternative which was there to avoid these sort of
issue in the organization, as it has been identified that if the organization would have conducted
the better market research in the market, it would have definitely help the organization in
overcoming the issue of setting up of good Aim and objective, these would have helped the
company in bringing good sort of clarity in project manager in terms of having the knowledge
what are the different decision which has to be taken by them in the project.
Project Planning: It is the next stage of project management; it is the stage which used to define
the variety of the different step which will be taken by project team in general to achieve the
objective of the project in the better way in the organization. In the case of Millennium Dome
project it has been identified that project team was having a good project plan but the plan which

organization would have helped the company in getting the better number of alternative when
there was any sort of confusion in the organization (Zid, Kasim and Soomro, 2020). This would
have eventually helped the company in reducing the amount of loss as well for the company, as it
would have eventually helped the company in getting good response from the company in the
long run.
Contract Signed: It is another important alternative which would have taken by the
organization at the time of project planning; it eventually means that providing authority to all
individual who is involved in the project, these has eventually helped the company in finding out
the fault and variety of the issue at the time of occurrence itself . On the basis of the same variety
of different type of action can be taken in the project to overcome the same
Project Execution: It is third stage of project this stage of the organization went well as
the project was deliver in the best way it could have been offered in real but the real issue which
was started was started after project was delivered to the individual. As it has been identified that
the project was not able to bring good amount of pay back from the customer in the form of the
revenue. As it was identified that for maintaining the building it will require 1 Million GBP and
the dome was not able to bring the same amount of the money back from the tourism in the form
of visitor, these has created the variety of the issue for the project. Different alternative in front
of the organization is as follows:
Promotional activity: Performing variety of different type of promotional activity in the
organization would have helped the project in seeing the better number of visitor in the
project team was not having the aftermath of the project as a consideration. For example, project
team was not having the clear idea about what will do of Humongous building after year 2000. In
