Introduction
Summer fest is the world’s largest music festivals that take place in Milwaukee situated
in Wisconsin. The summer fest is located in Henry Maier Festival Park. This was started in
1960s by Henry Maier. This festival attracts around 800, 000 people every year. The fest is a
record holder in Guinness World Book of being the largest Music festivals in the world. The fest
hosts performances for 11 days that takes place in June and July every year (Berg). The objective
of the assignment is to discuss the Milwaukee issue which also includes the current situation,
history as well as the recommendations on the background research of the issue.
Milwaukee issue
The world’s largest music festival financially impact the economy of the Milwaukee. It
contributes around $187 million to regional economy (Dow). The summer fest attracts thousands
of tourists to visit Milwaukee every year, therefore, this also adds up to the GDP of the economy.
The event which was to be held in June and July is now being postponed and will take place in
September due to the outbreak of the pandemic corona virus. This is a great loss and threat to the
financial market of Milwaukee. The lockdowns across the world has scared people visiting other
places. Even if the fest happened in September, it would not be as successful as it used to be.
Since, Milwaukee is situated in United States of America, and United States has recorded highest
cases of corona virus after China. Therefore, the lockdowns is beneficial for the Milwaukee area
and its people. But on the other hand it has badly affected the daily bread of some investors.
Background research on Milwaukee issue
Milwaukee has recorded around 1916 confirm corona cases and around 37 deaths. The
festival was about to take place on 4 June. The cancellation has led to great loss to the parent

organization of the Pride fest. Since, this is the biggest fest and the programs are hosted by the
biggest celebrities that take place in the event (Hanlon). Therefore, it gathers huge crowd. People
wait for it throughout the year and book tickets. The company will incur heavy losses due to
ticket cancellation. Due to this, the hotel industry of Milwaukee will also have to suffer heavy
losses because Milwaukee attracts thousands of tourists every year, but due to this pandemic
people will avoid moving elsewhere, therefore it will cause a major downfall in the attendance of
the people.
The summer fest was the reason of employment for many people, as the show not only
had music but other entertainment items games and food, shopping vendors and many more But
due to the COVID-19 people will now fear of eating at the stalls and avoid in coming contact
with the people. This will be a loss for the local people who were dependent on the fest for their
livelihood.
The Milwaukee apart from its summer fest, also hosts winter fest every year in the same
park where the summer fest takes place (Wilhelm). Due to the extension of the commencement
of the summer fest in summer, the winter fest is also affected. Since, summer fest will occur in
September, therefore, it might create problem for the sponsors and the organization to re-
schedule its winter fest. This is also one of the reasons of downfall of the Milwaukee’s financial
economy. Though the lockdowns are good for the health of the people but it has drastically
impacted the business of the summer fest.
Thoughts on research
The emerging scenario of the Milwaukee’s summer fest does not seem so fruitful for the
economy as well as the people of Milwaukee because this pandemic disease has not only slowed

down the economy of the place but the entire world is affected due to this. Due to this, many
people are likely to lose their jobs because after the lock downs open, recession will hit the
world’s economy. As a result, people have less amount of money to be spend on necessity. They
will be less wanting to spend on entertainment and luxuries. The organisers of the fest will also
have to spend more than before in order to give protection to the people. This will add extra
burden on the balance sheet of the company.
Conclusion and recommendation
Therefore, from the above discussion it is concluded that COVID-19 has severely
affected the business of the summer fest in Milwaukee. Since, this summer fest is considered as a
pride for the nation, therefore, the organisers of the fest should think more innovative ideas to
attract people to the show. For example, lowering the price of the tickets and providing cheap
lodging and fooding facilities to the tourists, proper maintenance of hygiene of the people
especially during water activities and more can be proved beneficial for the summer fest.
