2MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
Introduction:
The information system is a sociotechnical, formal and organizational system which are
designed for processing, collecting and distribution of the information (Pearlson, Saunders and
Galletta 2019). In the aspects of digital computers, information systems are also considered as
the computer information system, which is a system including both computers and peoples for
interpretation of information. Any specific type of information system can support management,
operations and the process of decision making (Cassidy 2016). For organizations, a specific type
of information system can be quite useful as it provides several benefits to the business.
In this report, the business procedure of Mirvac has been analysed. Mirvac is a real estate
group which is mainly focused on the development of properties on a joint venture. The current
business portfolio of Mirvac includes retail centres, commercial offices, and industrial properties.
In the current aspects, Mirvac is facing some crucial problems regarding the management of their
data. Currently, all the data in Mirvac is processed manually, which takes a large amount of time
and also errors are occurring in the manual system. For this reason, in many of the cases, Mirvac
is failing to deliver orders on time. This is adversely impacting the business and the reputation of
them. Thus, it is important for Mirvac to implement a proper solution regarding this. Here,
Mirvac can consider implementing an appropriate information system as they are facing problem
regarding the proper management of the data. Thus, in the following section, a brief discussion is
done regarding how an information system solves the current problem of Mirvac.
Description of the Problem:
In the current context, the main problem that Mirvac is facing is the appropriate
management of the data. Previously, Mirvac utilized manual procedures for managing the

organizational data, but with the time, the business of Mirvac increased gradually, which also
increased the amount of data. In such conditions, manual procedures are quite inefficient for
handling this much amount of data (Gharaibeh et al. 2017). Due, to this reason, Mirvac is often
missing some crucial data regarding a project, or there are errors in a project. For these reasons,
Mirvac is frequently missing the deadlines of their project, which is directly reflecting on their
overall profit. In many cases, the clients do not want to accept the whole project as it delivered to
them after the given deadline. In such conditions, the profitability of the organization is affected
directly (Costa 2018). Also, as the projects got extended, Mirvac needs to spend its own
resources to complete the project, which again reducing their overall profits and in the extreme
cases, this is causing a loss for the Mirvac.
This does not only decreasing the profit of the organization, but also it is increasing
overall complaints of the customers. In many cases, clients are not getting their projects as per
their described criteria which are leading to the customer dissatisfaction and increased amount of
complaints (Kim, Kim and Heo 2019). This is also leading to various quality-related concerns for
the projects. As the customers are dissatisfied by the service of Mirvac, they are looking for
some another option. In this way, the overall market share for the Mirvac is also decreasing, and
it is again causing Mirvac to decrease its profit.
Platform for Solving the Current Organizational Problem:
In the current aspect, the main problem that Mirvac is facing is the proper management of
the organizational data. Thus, it is important to fix this current issue so that the organization can
operate properly. To solve the current problem, an information system can be useful for Mirvac.
For solving this current issue, the database management system has been selected here. A
database management system is a specific type of software package that is mainly designed for

defining, manipulating, managing and retrieving data within a database (Van Aken et al. 2017).
An ordinary database is capable of manipulating the data by itself. The database management
system is also capable of manipulating the data format, record structure, field names and the file
structure. There are various database management systems that are available in the market,
including MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server and many more others (Arulraj and Pavlo 2017). Thus, in
this aspect, a database management system will be the perfect solution for appropriate
management of the organizational data.
By implementing this solution, all the organizational data will be managed through this
database management system. As, in the current aspect, the organization has become quite large,
in many situations, employees need to access organizational data outside of the organization,
which was not possible in the previous manual system. Here, the selected database management
system can also provide a solution to this issue. To ensure that the employees are able to access
the data outside of the organization, a cloud-based database management system can be
implemented for Mirvac (Koubâa et al. 2017). In this way, the current problem of appropriate
management of data can be resolved for Mirvac.
Implementation of a database management system will not only solve the current
problem faced by Mirvac, but also it will provide several advantages to Mirvac, which will
improve the overall business processes of them. The main advantages that Mirvac will provide
are efficient management of data which will help the employees to execute multiple tasks
effectively (Wu and Fu 2020). In this way, business efficiency will be improved, and the overall
cost for the business will be reduced. Also, by using the database management system, Mirvac
will be able to handle multiple data types in an efficient way. This will also improve the business
procedure of Mirvac. The database management system will not only assist in the business

operations but also the same system can be used for performing internal operations of the
organization, including human resource operations. Also, by proper analysis of the available data
in the database, important decisions can be taken regarding improvement in the business. Thus,
in this way, the database management system will help Mirvac to improve their organizational
operations.
Information Technology for adding Business Value to Mirvac:
Information technology is capable of providing business value to the organization in
different ways. This is also the same with Mirvac as the implementation of IT will provide
various values in the organization. Productivity is one of the main aspects that is increased
through the implementation of information technology (Luftman, Lyytinen and Zvi 2017). As the
productivity of the organization will be increased, businesses will surely get benefits from these,
which will add more value to the businesses.
Another advantage that is achieved through the implementation of IT is the competitive
advantage. By using the information technology, Mirvac will be able to achieve forward-
thinking, which will help them to determine the ways to keep the business ahead from other
market competitors (Venkitachalam and Ambrosini 2017). In this way, Mirvac will be able to get
a competitive advantage in the market.
For organizations, the satisfaction of the customers is another criteria for success. The
more customers remain satisfied, the more revenue of the organization increases. Here, the
information technology plays an important role to ensure the satisfaction of the customers (Hill
and Brierley 2017). By the implementation of IT, faster service can be provided to the customers
with greater efficiency. This will make the customers happy, and they will be loyal to the

organizations. Implementing IT will also help Mirvac to get the business intelligence which will
help to improve their services. This will also help Mirvac to improve the satisfaction of the
customers.
The efficiency of the organization is another important aspect that can be achieved
through the implementation of information technology. Here, efficiency refers to how smoothly
the organization can operate while maintaining the operational cost minimum. By using IT
solutions, Mirvac will be able to keep their operations minimal while operating in a smooth
manner. In this way, IT will be able to increase the efficiency of Mirvac.
Innovation among organizations is also crucial in several aspects. Innovation means the
ability of the organization to introduce new services and products in the market (Azar and
Ciabuschi 2017). In several cases, innovation also refers to the ability of the organization for
improving their existing services. Innovation among the organization is important to attract new
customers which will create a much larger customer base for the organization. For this reason,
Mirvac requires innovation within their organization. The information technology is also helpful
to bring innovation within organizations. While the information technology is implemented in
the organization, it can make the new areas of business feasible as the technological barriers and
the economic barriers will be minimised. IT is considered an important tool for innovation
among service firms which can make Mirvac beneficial in this context.
Change Program:
In the current situation, Mirvac is facing issues regarding appropriate management of the
organizational data. Thus, it is very much important to take appropriate steps so that the current
situation of Mirvac can be improved. The main solution that has been identified for solving the

current issue is the database management system. The database management system is capable of
appropriate management of the organizational data, which will surely improve the current
situation of Mirvac (Rizvi et al. 2019). Thus a change program needs to be initiated for
implementing a database management system in Mirvac. In the following section, important
steps associated with the change program is discussed.
The first for this change program is identifying the needs of the organization. In this
aspect, a deep analysis of the current problem of the organization needs to be performed
(Patterson 2017). From this analysis, the actual area for the improvement can be
identified and depending on that appropriate set of the database system can be chosen,
which can be implemented in Mirvac.
The next step for the change program is the development of a shortlist. After selecting the
appropriate database system, preparing a shortlist is important to execute the change
program further (O’Donohue 2016). In this shortlist, all the possible options will be
converted to a manageable list. For creating the change shortlist a professional consultant
can be also hired who will be auditing the system capabilities with the current need of the
organization. In this way, an appropriate solution can be developed for Mirvac.
The next step in the change program is the evaluation of the current shortlisted options.
The shortlisted section includes all the solutions that can be implemented in Mirvac.
Thus, evaluation is required so that the best solution can be implemented in the
organization (Etkin and Sela 2016). In this case, the shortlisted database vendors will be
contacted and will be asked for a demo service. This demo service will be used testes
with the organization, and if it successfully satisfies all the requirement of the
organization, then it can be considered as the final solution.

The next step for the change program is the implementation of the software. In this step,
the full database system will be implemented that has been chosen in the previous step.
For implementing this system, the existing infrastructure of Mirvac will be modified
accordingly. While the new database system is being implemented in Mirvac, proper
training also must be provided to the employees (Noe and Kodwani 2018) so that they
can use the new system effectively.
The last step of this change program is developing a maintenance team for the
implemented database system. All types of database system require appropriate
maintenance so that they can function properly. So, a maintenance team needs to be
created for the proper management of the database system.
Recommendation:
While the new change program is initiated in Mirvac, it should be a long-term strategy. It
means that the implemented strategy should provide benefits to the organization for a
long time.
The change program that is initiated in Mirvac, should be governed by quality not the
quantity. If it only focuses on the quality then it will surely fail in near future.
While implementing a database system, proper maintenance of the system also needs to
be ensured, otherwise it will fail in future.
Conclusion:
From the above discussion it can be concluded that database management system is one
of the effective solution that Mirvac needs to implement in the current situation. Currently,
Mirvac is facing various of organizational issues due to their old manual data management

system which needs to be replaced. As a solution of this problem cloud-based database
management system has been identified in this paper. First, in this paper a brief about Mirvac has
been demonstrated and why Mirvac needs a management information system has been
elaborated. Following that, an overall description of the current problem in Mirvac has been
discussed. In the next section platform for solving the current problem of Mirvac has been
identified which is the cloud-based database management system. Also, how the information
technology can provide business value to the organizations has been described in this paper. The
change program which is required for implementing the database management system has been
also discussed and appropriate recommendation has been also provided regarding the change
program.
