Management Information Systems 2
Challenges of MIS in Dominos
A Management Information and Systems is crucial in gathering information from various
online systems and then analyzing the information to make reports that assist in decision-making
(Lucey, 2004, pg. 69). To many organizations, an MIS provides many benefits such as increased
efficiency and great reliability. However, an MIS also brings about challenges in different
organizations. For instance, Dominos uses a Management Information System to analyze its
environment, workflow, and formulation of the organizational operations. The system also
assists the company to analyze and process its voluminous information regarding the market and
changing consumer needs. However, in all this, the MIS presents different challenges to the
company that affects the operations of the company.
To begin with, the Pizza Builder & Pizza Tracker MIS system brings some challenges.
This system allows customers to order pizza online. However, at times, connectivity issues cause
system lags hence customers are unable to place order effectively (He et al., 2013, pg. 466). This
costs the company because the lags mean that no sales or deliveries are made. In addition, the
operations get slower hence customers are forced to buy from other competitors such as Pizza
Hut and Papa John’s Pizza. In the long run, forecasted revenues are affected since they reduced
by specific percentages when connectivity issues arise.
Secondly, reports generated from information supplied into the MIS may generate
misleading information due to changing market conditions. For example, In 2010, Dominos
made huge losses due to poor comprehension of customer needs because of adopting a wrong
market strategy (Lewis et al., 2005, pg. 27). This means that an organization should not just
depend on the reports provided by the MIS system but should also have other means to compare
the data. This ensures effectiveness and forecasted objectives are met in time. Besides, in
Dominos, prediction of future performances may be affected since the tastes of consumers
changes every day since the company operates in a fast-moving food market.
Thirdly, the complexity of the MIS system is also a challenge. Since the MIS system
revolves around complex technology, Dominos staff face a hard time driving business goals
(Tilvawala et al., 2011, pg. 192). Since Dominos gives customers the freedom to make the virtual
pizza online either through the mobile application or website, it is expensive and challenging to

ensure the smooth running of the business. This has also brought about extra costs that affect the
profits at the expense of providing a smooth experience to the customers.
In conclusion, due to the new advancement of the MIS system, Domino’s Pizza is still
learning ways of which it can incorporate new techniques in order to make service delivery
efficient. Due to competition from both huge pizza industry and new pizza restaurants that are
coming up, technology has been a crucial component in gaining a huge market share. For
example, although the Pizza Builder & Pizza Tracker MIS system brings challenges at times due
to connectivity issues, it has ensured a competitive edge due to the delivery success.
