Summary of the article
The article highlights about the information centric networking architecture which is based on
host centric communication model that is for coping with the needs of internet users. The usage
of Internet has been evolving with time and there are users who are accessing the information,
irrespective of their location. The usage model highlights on better security and mobility to
consider about the radical changes to the internet architecture. There have been witness about the
research efforts and investigation of Information Centric Networking that is set for the Future
Internet built-up. It also highlights about the functionalities and the weakness of ICN proposals
to outline the research challenges with areas of networking research.
Literature Review
The article examines of the growth of internet and the new applications which are being
introduced for fulfilling the emerging needs of the people. It has also given the rise to the new
requirements which are from the architecture like the support for the scalable content
distribution, its mobility and the trust. There are different current and emerging requirements
which cannot be addressed adequately but needs to focus on identifying the Information Centric
networking which has been emerging for better architecture (Xylomenos et al., 2014). ICN aims
for the reflection on current and future needs than the existing Internet architecture. Here, the
focus is on analysing the aims that are compared to ICN surveys with the most representative and
the mature architectures. The article also highlights about the overview, with presenting the key
concepts that are important for understanding the challenges. The focus is on information naming
and setting the academic network for the global infrastructure with massive distribution of
information. There are different aspects which are related to focus on information delivery and

then handling the specific sources that are important for network elements and handle the
information where in no data can be received till there has been explicit request by the receiver.
Explain and critique the methods used
The author selected the research and the other writings from the field of review. He has working
on different methods with integrating the findings that have been reported into a single article for
future research. The focus is on content delivery networks with deploying the overlays that are
applied with the techniques set over the wide area at the application layer. The methods used are:
a. Naming: It is about the assigning of information that can be communicated over the
network which is important for ICN (Xylomenos et al., 2014)
b. Name of the resolution and routing of data: This includes how the provider is able to
supply the information with data routing involving the construction of path for
transferring it.
c. Caching: This is for handling the on-path and off-path caching in the network with
exploring information along the path that has been taken with name resolution request.
d. Mobility: The mobility is intrinsic which is supported through ICN networks and is for
sending new subscriptions.
Findings
According to the findings, there have been logical order for the markets to target on the
government, business ICT and information centric applications. This is because the opportunities
in the government sector can be satisfied with adopting the purely overlaying mechanism that
entrails the smaller overall costs which is compared to the adoption of native mechanism. The
business opportunities are related to the ICT sector where the investments are done on the

information centric application that is depending upon traffic volumes (Xylomenos et al., 2014).
This in turn helps in focusing over the opportunities which involves the dependency on traffic
volumes with widespread deployment of new architectures.
Opinion on value of study
According to me, ICN has been a promising field with fertile research that has been shown with
the potential to address the problems of internet. The qualitative way has been including the
needs for further research and quantitative studies to evaluate the benefits and potential
performance gains that has been through architectural paradigms as well as the additional work.
It includes the naming, name resolution and data routing with proper explanation of general
goals and operations. The discussion of the open issues for ICN have been important in shaping a
unified view of the alternative proposals and methods by defining the set core of ICN
functionalities.
