INTRODUCTION
The following report will be a reflective journal containing logs related to the
studying and learning that I undertook over the course of 10 weeks in relation to my personal,
professional and academic growth and will be based on the development of PDP’s which
were part of the weekly submission project that was asked of me.
MAIN BODY
Professional development
The basic goal of learning through this module was to become a more professionally
sound individual with great chances of employability which is an area where I can proudly
say I succeeded for the most part. Professional development can only take place through
continuous learning and action plans for acquiring marketable skills which happened during
week 1 where despite missing the lecture due to illness, I was able to analyze and learn about
important knowledge, skills and behaviors (KSB) needed at the workforce which helped in
the final draft of my personal development plan (Gubbins and Hayden, 2020). The
knowledge of SMART objectives that I gained in week 2 also helped me a lot as I was able to
frame my professional requirements in a relevant and time bound manner making the process
more effective. This module also taught me some of the most important skills to have to
become a true professional such as knowing how to draft a proper resume and a cover letter
to land desired jobs in week 5 of the schedule along with teaching me methods and
importance of self-appraisal as a tool of conflict management which will help me when I
open my own business one day which I learned during week 7. Tourism industry is subject to
regular external disruptions which is why it is necessary to know how to analyze the external
environment which is what I was taught in week 8 of the module and this skill helped me to
also improve my writing and research skills through models such as SWOT and PESTLE
analysis (Shmatko, Yanovskiy and Shamina, 2018). Week 9 of the module was focused on
coaching which is one of the most effective ways to increase employee motivation and
performance (Wiginton and Cartwright, 2020). The module helped me plan out actions to
develop my coaching skills and understand the framework in leadership activities which will

benefit me in running my own venture. Finally during week 10, I was taught about the art of
business negotiation which was very valuable as it is a skill that very few people have and I
also learned about negotiation techniques and frameworks such as BANTA. Overall I was
satisfied with my professional development through this module.
Personal development
This module helped me a lot in developing not only as a professional in a corporate or
academic setting but also on an individual level as the learnings I inculcated helped me better
my personal life as well. The learnings about personal skill assessments in the form of
Knowledge, skills and behaviors (KSB) helped me identify the areas where I lack basic skills
which will help me in bettering myself and enhancing my personality and confidence. The
lecture on self-leadership which was conducted on the 3rd week helped me realize the
importance of being a leader and also come to terms with the realization that I do not possess
natural traits of leadership and would need to develop them such as teamwork and empathy
(Holt, Hall and Gilley, 2018). I also learned how to keep myself motivated through intrinsic
desires and the importance of driving oneself to achieve personal goals which will help me in
building my personal development plans to make sure I am a successful tourism business
owner in the future. The teachings of emotional intelligence in week 4 has also greatly helped
in my development as a better and more productive person as I learned valuable lesions about
controlling and managing my emotions which will help me maintain relationships in my life
in a better manner (Avlaev, 2020). I also learned about the chimp paradox and got to know
that sometimes it’s best if you let your inner child take control but to never let it take control
of the narrative and the situation. Throughout this entire learning process, I got to know that I
can develop all the skills that I currently lack as a person such as not being a great team
worker, not being a born leader and not having a great emotional quotient which helped me
immensely in planning my future career development plans by focusing on removing these
weaknesses through seminars, lectures and extra courses.
Academic development
One of my most important short term personal development plan that I have set for
myself throughout the time spent in the institution is to graduate and complete my training
before starting to build my own tourism business and this module helped me gain quite a lot

of knowledge and skill development in regards to my academic proficiency. Although I
missed the very first lecture due to falling sick, the assignments still helped to evaluate my
personal skillset which helped identify areas where I can work hard to become better
academically such as teamwork and time management which will allow me to learn and
contribute to my academic work and projects in a more productive manner. Week 3 lecture
was also very important for my academic skill development in the short term as through
personal analysis and theoretical knowledge imparted to me by the lecturer, I identified that I
would need to work hard to inculcate the qualities of leadership which will not only help me
in completing my training through self-leadership and intrinsic desire but also help mold my
skill-sets to effectively run my tourism business in the future. I planned my developmental
actions accordingly as I wanted to develop strong standards of teamwork which are crucial
for leaders to drive their subordinates in a proper manner. A major part of my personal
development plan was also to learn about the art of academic writing along with developing
my research skills which were supplemented by the learnings that I was subjected to during
week 6 when I learned in detail about the art of academic writing, reflective writing styles
along with peer review which is an important part of research (Yu and Liu, 2021). I learned
about proper structure, methodology and style of not only writing academically but by also
applying sound reasoning to the entire process (Haffar, Bazerbachi and Murad, 2019).
CONCLUSION
The above report went into detail regarding the various concepts and topics which I
learned over the course of 10 weeks which resulted in me attaining key developments in
multiple aspects such as personal, professional and academic development. It was concluded
from the reflection that was written that the module was immensely helpful in my all around
growth.

In addition to financial goals, I have in mind some rather specific goals, such as
graduation, professional development in tourism and travel.
My short-term goal in the near future is to complete my training and graduate. My
long-term goals include starting my own business in the tourism and travel industry.
B. What are you seeking to develop at this time?
My primary development goal is to further develop academic research, search,
writing, and time management. As well as professional development in the field of tourism
and travel business. I am also working on acquiring leadership traits such as empathy along
with business negotiation and coaching skills which will develop me from a varied
perspective.
C. Emphasis: What do you need?
First of all, I would need a lot of time to optimize my time schedule using time
management. Unfortunately, I can’t schedule my time properly and I often delay doing tasks
unfortunately.
