INTRODUCTION
This report will discuss about the reflection and my suitability to work in hotel industry. By
using the Schön’s Model of Reflection, it will evaluate the skills and knowledge which is needed
so that I can attain success in this job role. I will further use career actions test and coaching
activity which is taught in the classroom in the lecture. I believe that reflection is the method
through which an individual can find out their strengths and weaknesses easily and they also get
clarity about the future (Mizobuchi and Hamasaki, 2020). As I want to work in hotel industry so
for that purpose I also have done research so that I can become expert in my job role. As hotel
sector is the part of hospitality industry only and for getting selected in hotel industry I have
develop skills which is required to work in hotel industry. There are many skills which employer
look which are listening skills, communication skill in terms of verbal and non verbal skills,
customer service skill, problem solving skill etc. the most important thing which is considered
by employer is the level of confidence.
MAIN BODY
Schön’s Model of Reflection
this is the reflection model which is famous for improving the work of practitioners. Reflective
practice is the wide term and it consists of various models of reflection. This model further helps
in enhancing professional practice and reflection is also considered as the good way for
synthesising the ability and skills of the person (Slade, Martin and Watson, 2020). In the
professional environment reflection is said to as the important practice because it helps an
individual to develop professional knowledge and skills which is necessary to become successful
in the professional career.
This model states that reflection should have done at initial stage only as the self evaluation
activity so that improvement can be done at the earlier stage only. This model have two aspect
which is reflection in action and reflection on action. reflection in action means that when
anything takes place than at that moment do not panic and decide immediately what to act and
also act at that moment only. reflection on action means if the situation has already taken place
than an individual should have properly reconsider the situation (Sheveleva and Pankratova,
2019). Think about the alternate options in regards of what to be done in the future.

Career anchor test-
in the classroom while attending the lecture, tutor have told us to carry Career anchor test.
Career anchor is the continuous process and it will gradually develop over time (Mulryan-Kyne,
2021). I believe that with the help of those test I can evaluate my identity and also can come to
know about my personal talent, attitudes, behaviour, values, talent, motives etc. the skills and
motives which I have identified will help me to work in the organisation in which I wish to work
with. This reflection model focus on the importance of thoughts. So that is why before starting
anything I noted my thought process. At the starting I was having this thought that certain test
was not able to tell me that what I wanted because I already have knowledge in regards of what I
want in my life. After doing this test I have identified the major career anchor which are
lifestyle, dedication, freedom, joy and functional.
After I have reflected on my experience it did not surprised me because I the results which I
received was same as I thought. In the hotel industry I believe that my personal experience over
food will definitely benefit me because I want to work in the department which is concerned
about food. The result which is got after doing this test has made me clear that I am going in the
right direction in regards of hotel industry. In the test there were many questions which was not

related to me (Gerlach, 2021). I think that the test consists of organisational role regarding
questions. In have all the questions clearly and than I would have find that there were questions
which is related to discipline and freedom which is related with my career aspirations.
The freedom anchor have provided me the recommendation that I wanted the career in which I
can get complete freedom because I need proper work life balance. I cannot work continuously
like robot. I need time and space in my personal life. This anchor have further told me that I
cannot work by following orders always. I am expressive person and I need freedom in
everything whether it is speech, living etc. so I will enjoy working under such manager which
allow me to share my views and opinions (Agger, 2018). I believe that when I work in the
company which comes in hotel sector will able to fulfil my needs. After I received the results of
the career anchors test my confident level has increased. Now I can say that I am trusting on this
test because this test has given me clarity. I believe that functional skills is the important skill
and will help me to develop expertise. I feel that I can become expert in hotel industry because I
have adequate knowledge about food and its different cuisines. I believe that it is required to
focus on bot general and special knowledge in your field because you never know that which
knowledge will be helpful in the career.
Coaching activity
coaching refers to the type of mentoring. Coaching is the activity when the coach provide certain
direction to an individual (Hunter, 2021). Coaching is necessary because it provide right
direction and also provide proper guidance. While doing the coaching activity I have found that
there are various skills which I require to become expert in my field like effective
communication skill. In the hotel industry communication skill is considered as the most vital
skill because one has to deal with customers face to face. Sales can be generated if the employee
have good communication skills. Good listening skills are also important because if you listen
properly then also you can respond properly. Before doing this activity is was confused that it
will deliver value or not. After doing this activity I can say that I have learnt a lot and that will
definitely help me in my career.
Before doing this activity I have underestimated written communication. But after this activity I
have realised the importance of written communication in hotel industry (Edwards, 2017).
Earlier I was having this habit of not reading mails properly but after I have applied this skill in
my activity I have noted the remarkable difference which this skill has made. Now I believe that

this skill will definitely benefit me in my career. I have also learnt that using correct language is
very important in the hotel industry. Employees who work in hotel industry should be soft
spoken. Speaking softly can help in attracting more customers.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that after completing the activities and test I have learnt various skills which
will be helpful to me in my career. I have also got knowledge about the skills which has to be
build and is compulsory to develop if I want to work in hotel industry. I have understood the
value of graduation and if I will concentrate properly on getting graduation and on good marks
then if will be helpful for me in building strong career. I think that I should have reduced my
working hours so that I can give more time to my studies. Studying properly will only help me
in getting good grades in the exam. After completing the coaching activity I have came to
understand the importance of coach in the life. After this activity I have stopped depending on
anyone and became independent. By conducting test I have also learnt about how to deal with
various issues in life. This reflection model which I have used in this report will also help me to
attain growth and success in my career.
