PART I: Collection of Information
Here in this project, an existing network design will be modified for Barranquilla Plaza Hotel.
Hence it is required to identify issues with the design of the network and this is to be according to the
business requirements. However, to collect those requirements, users, management and IT staff of the
hotel will be contacted and they will be asked to provide their personal opinion and insight about the
issues that is relevant to the network. Some initial questions have considered in this purpose and based
on that some questionnaires will be designed. This questionnaire will then be distributed to users,
management team and IT staff of the hotel so that an accurate description of the issues and implement
solution to those issues. The questionnaires have been discussed in this context.
Questionnaires set for Users
Does the routers in the network provide accurate signal and if improvement is needed in this
context?
Is average signal strength of the Wi-Fi is acceptable for conducting services that requires
internet connection?
Is there is significant drop in the quality of the voice and video call and how frequent it is?
Is there any issue while downloading content from the online sites?
Does network error is shown while downloading online content and Does downloading of
content is resumed when connection is back or is it started from the first

the design of the network consistent with the requirements of the users. The questionnaires hence
designed in this purpose aims to provide description in various aspects such as what are the issues with
the network, what features need improvement, what features are best of the existing design and how to
do that modification according to the design requirements.

In order to design the network effectively and provide an efficient network solution
identification and analysis of the network issues is required and this is done before the design of the
plan is made. The floor plan for the existing network design is studied in detail so that it is easier to
install new network device and connections according to the new design plan. Analysis of the floor plan

these areas is required. In order to do this, application profile is created which helps in collecting area
wise network speed and network related issues. This application profile also helps to configure VTY
server which helps to share client related information. Along with that application profile also provide
assistance VTP sever which manages configuration for different switch in the network and there is no
requirement for crating separate configuration for different switches. Along with that application profile
also provide assistance to share VLAN information between devices which helps in identifying issues
regarding networking devices and thus bringing improvement in the overall network performance.
First of all, a detailed analysis is done to identify technical goals regarding this project. This
analysis also identifies constraints that IT staff and manage encounters in properly managing their
services and consumers. IT personnel are therefore invited to participate in a brainstorming session so
that these issues are discussed which will help in redesigning the network in an appropriate way that
provides enhanced network services for improving business process and consumer management.
Another important requirement for this network redesign is to minimize the cost for redesigning
the network. Hence cost estimation is done considering cost for various network devices, hardware and
required software.
Although communication with the respective project stakeholders regarding network design
description and issues will be done for providing details regarding project implementation process, if
there is any issue in the communication, the best choice for network devices and resources will be made
in the project. A detailed measurement for coverage area will also be done for estimation of number of
access point that is required for the network redesign. This estimation will also help in estimating
required cable length for installing access point for providing network facility through wireless
connection. This will also help in estimating budget for the network redesign.
In order to ensure that the devices, hardware and software selected for this network design is of
high quality, standard quality and performance metric is developed. This will help in ensuring that the
network resources acquired in this project is consistent with design requirements. It is also ensured that
