1MANAGING ORGANIZATIONS
The report includes the interview that was conducted of the manger and it was
conducted with the purpose of analyzing the function of planning, leading and organizing the
organization. These are the major roles of a manager who works in an organization. The
report illustrates the interview taken for the function of the operational manager of the
company.
Role of a manager
The interview was taken of a current manager. He was asked questions on the factors
like planning, leading and organizing or controlling. The first question comprised of the role
of the managers. The current manager of an organization was asked about his role. To which
he answered that his role was to look after the operations of the company. He looked after the
production of the company and he formulated strategies that would enable the company to
increase their revenue. The fact that can be mentioned here is that the manger should not be
only responsible for looking after the benefits of the company but he should also look after
his employees. His role should include the formation of the strategies that might improve the
internal as well as the external structure of the organization (Hill, Jones and Schilling 2014).
The role of the manger should not be restricted to looking after the production of the
employees but it should also include the formation of effective strategies that would enable
the employees to get a comfortable place to work in. An operational manager should head
towards making the working environment better (Certo 2018).
The organization and the structure
They work for an apparel industry. The organization has huge warehouse and they
have separate manufacturing unit. The manager was asked to brief about the organization he
was working for. On that he replied that he was working for the organization that was one of
the leading apparel industries. The organization he was working for had huge infrastructure

and huge manpower. The organization had a structural appraisal system and it had a planned
internal as well as external structure. Apart from the operational manger the company had the
post of executive manager, administrative manager and the business development manager.
The only target of the managers was to plan for the improvement of the company. However,
the aspect that is necessary in every organization is that the mangers should offer the
extensive form of leadership. They should execute the plans of leading their teams and the
employees of the organizations (Bolman and Deal 2017).
Key activities
The next question that was asked was about the key activities in which the managers
did spend their time on. On which the manger replied that they did spend their time on the
activities that they formed strategies on how to increase the production of the employees.
They formed strategies that would help the employees to achieve their targets. Like the
employees were divided into teams and the supervisors were instructed the way to deal with
the members of their teams. The mangers formulated strategies like increasing more the
number of recruitment so that the work gets divided among more employees and the load of
the work gets lighter. The managers should focus on the needs of the customers. They should
focus on the needs of the employees. They should formulate the strategies that would make
the employees to achieve their targets not in a mechanical way but in a cheerful way (Kerzner
and Kerzner 2017). It is the duty of the manager to look after the needs of the employees.
This includes the arrangement of some training programs where the manager should lead his
team. The manger should provide motivation to the employees that would let the employees
to do their work easily (Bolden 2016).
The challenges

3MANAGING ORGANIZATIONS
The manager was asked about the key challenges that could be associated with the
role of the mangers. The manager replied that the managers had to go through lot of pressure.
The managers had to manage the entire planning of the organization. The manager had to
lead hs team and they had to control the issues that were faced by the organization. For
instance the manager said that their organization faced the issue of employer retention. The
managers thought of increasing the amount of recruitment that would fulfill the empty posts.
The formulation of this strategy was a challenge for them. Moreover, the mangers were
always responsible for the low production and they were answerable to their supervisors
(Black et al. 2017). They sometimes had to resolve the problems of the employees by sitting
with them personally. In this context it can be said that even the managers should find some
way to motivate themselves like they should involve themselves in some activities like
reading motivational books or listening to motivational songs. They themselves can attend
some motivational programs. The managers must provide training to the teams and they
should plan some recreational activity for the employees so that they does not get bored off
their work. The managers should try to find out the reason of huge employee retention instead
of increasing the recruitment. The mangers and the employees are the pillars and the
backbones of the organization. The organization must look after the needs of the managers as
well, after all even they are the employees of the organization. This would enable the
organization to run in a smooth manner and it would decrease the stress of the mangers as
well as the employees and would solve the challenges that they face while working in the
organization (Bartlett and Beamish 2018).
