Introduction
Monaco, which is also known as Principality of Monaco, is considered the second
smallest country in Europe after the Vatican City. It is politically a sovereign, city state and a
ministate on the French Rivera coastline situated at the Western Europe. The country is bordered
by Mediterranean sea on one side and France on the other three. The respective paper is a profile
and analysis of the country Monaco where the report has covered the country’s geography,
population, ethnicity, literacy, history, government, economy and tourist attraction. The
respective paper is a report where the country’s capabilities regarding business, tourism,
hospitality and information technology has been assessed and analyzed.

Overview
Monaco, which is officially known as the Principality of Monaco, is the second smallest
country in the world after Vatican City situated in the Western Europe. It has an area of 0.78 sq
mi which makes the country a ministate. In 2018, the population of the country was estimated to
be 38,682. It is politically a sovereign, city state and a ministate on the French Rivera coastline
situated at the Western Europe. The country is bordered by Mediterranean sea on one side and
France on the other three.
Geographical Features of Monaco
Monaco is a mini, city state which is located on the French Rivera in Western Europe.
The country is bordered by Mediterranean sea on one side and France on the other three. The
center of the country is about 16 km from Italy and only 13 km northeast of France. Monaco has

a population of 38,682 which makes the country the most densely populated mini city state.
“Patio Palace” residential building is considered to be the highest point in the country which is
164 meters above the sea level. The one and only natural resource of Monaco is Fishing. The
entire country of Monaco is an urban city state center. Monaco has very little commercial
agricultural area. The climate of Monaco is quintessentially hot- summer Mediterranean climate
that has subsequent influence of the oceanic climate also. Monaco is also dominated by humid
sub- tropical climate. Monaco has hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Rains often occur in
the dry summer season but the lengths of the rainy episodes are relatively shorter. In the summer
season, the afternoons of the country are relatively hot but the atmosphere throughout remains
temperate due to the oceanic breezes. The nights are mild due to fairly high temperature in the
summer of the sea. The temperature of the country usually does not drop under 20 degree
Celsius. Winters, frost and snowfalls in the country are extremely rare and occurs twice every ten
years (Bbc.com.,2018).
Population
The total population of Monaco is 38,682 as estimated in the year 2018. The Monaco
citizens, also known as Monegasques, are themselves an ethnic minority in the respective
country. The French nationals form the maximum of the demography, for almost 28.4 per cent
accompanied by Monegasques, Italian, British, Belgian, German, Swiss and the US Nationals.
Monaco has the highest life expectancy of almost ninety years. Monaco has ten state funded and
administered schools and a university named International University of Monaco that specializes
in business education.

Language
The official language of the nation of Monaco is French but the language Italian is also
said by big Italian communities of the nation. The prince of Monaco, the Grimaldi is a
Monegasque who has Ligurian origin and their ethnic language is Monegasque which is now
spoken by only a handful of residents of Monaco.
Religion
The official religion of Monaco is Catholic Christian faith but freedom of practicing other
religion is also provided in the constitution of the nation. The other religions that have impact on
the nation are Islam and Judaism apart from Greek orthodox church, Protestant and Anglicanism.
Government
Since the year 1911, Monaco has been governed by constitutional monarchy by the
sovereign Prince of Monaco who is the constitutional head of the state. There is a five member
council of government which is headed by the Minister of the state of the executive branch of the
government. The political and administrative affairs of the country is looked after by the
Communal Council that has fourteen members who are presided over by the Mayor of the
country (Bbc.com.,2018).
Main industries
The main source of income of the nation of Monaco is tourism. In the summer seasons,
the casinos of the country become active and many tourists come to the nation to take part in
casino games. The natural resource which is abundant in Monaco is fishing. The main industries

of Monaco are also the tobacco industries and postal service. Cable and Wireless communication
networks are also a big industry in Monaco. Since Monaco is not a member of European Union,
it is closely linked through customs and trade relations with France (Archive.org.,2020).
Tourist attractions
Monte Carlo is a district of the nation Monaco which is a famous tourist attraction
because of its magnificent and posh atmosphere. Monte Carlo is a small district city with sea
beaches and beautiful scenery (Theguardian.com.,2009). The district is also famous for people
watching and fine dining. Another tourist attraction is the Musée Oceanographique which is a
museum that exhibits sea animals and oceanic life. It has one of the world’s oldest aquariums
and a popular tourist destination for animal and nature lovers. For religious tourism, Cathedrals
of the nation are equally famous for their Roman- Byzantine style of architecture
(Theguardian.com.,2005).
Conclusion
Monaco, being the second smallest country in the world and having no provision or
statutes for income tax, is a nation that thrives on investors and businesspersons. The economy of
Monaco is highly concentrated in tourism, cosmetics, communication networks, food and
gourmet, clothing and textiles. Monaco gives room for business oriented mind who targets the
posh and wealthy lots. Monaco is a country that flaunts her good looking population, aristocratic
and posh lifestyle, fine gastronomy and casinos. Tourists who are wealthy and have fancies find
Monaco to be a perfect place for visiting in holidays. With rise in tourists, hotels and hospitality
sectors of Monaco are also thriving and becoming promising day by day. With advanced

infrastructure and scientific bent of mind among the population, Monaco is also advancing in
Information Technology areas (Livemint.com.,2019). Cable and wireless communication
networks are big businesses in Monaco. To conclude, it can be said that Monaco, even though
small, is a prolific and fertile land for business with dime- a- dozen amenities that should be
harnessed judiciously by upcoming business minded people and students who have interest in
business, hospitality, tourism and technology.
