Introduction

the irony of existence of the case with no help despite the comfy and expensive nature of the
majority of the dwellers in the region. The problem that remains under focus in the case refers to

According to the information presented, an estimated 350 women in the area live without a roof
over their heads in Monterey County (Taylor par. 4). The situation calls for advocacy efforts
towards finding a solution to the problem of homelessness facing the hundreds of women.
The issue of homelessness has become rampant in many of the states within America.
The situation forces individuals to spend their night outside in shelters and other in the streets
with only a few clothing to cover them until dawn comes. A number of the individuals are
subjected to the case as a result of lack of funds that are in most cases spent elsewhere or as a
result of job loss (Abramovitz 22). The case provides a saddening trend prompted by the
realization that the single women on the streets have least available resources and options to
programs and services once they become homeless.
The inability to afford housing stretches the issue thus equally limiting their ability to
secure a number of programs and services essential for women. One of the biggest problem
remains the safety of the women who are left vulnerable to rape, engagement in prostitution, and
lack of services and programs to address their issues (Weinstein and Carson 910). The case
described the women as lonely, poor, frightened and out to fend for their daily meal across the
beach.

Efforts to solve the issue and bring reprieve to the women included those of Reid, Eileen
Kiniry resource coordinator at the Gathering Place that served as a refuge for homeless women
and Karen who served with I-Help organization that provided overnight shelter to the homeless
in Monterey County (Taylor par.6). Reid sprang into action after hearing touching stories from
the women who were rendered homeless due to causes beyond their ability. As such, he engaged
himself and others in advocacy program rallying around for a common goal to create a better
place to handle the problem facing the women. The fund for the Homeless Women assisted in
raising $250000 in three years towards support for program and services for women without
shelter. There were places where food was offered while others provided shelter and overnight
parking spaces for those living in cars.
According to the case, the assistance provided care and thus became a real-time solution
to the women. The women were accorded with health and other services that assisted them
improve their homelessness state through meals and overnight lodges tailor-made for them. At
the same time, the government services to the homeless had dwindled leaving the faith
communities to cater for the needs (Taylor 4). As such, the assistance given by the faith-based
programs went a long way towards assisting the homeless women in the County despite their
insufficient nature.
Opinion on Writer’s Perception or Ideas
The writer applauds the assistance and programs enacted by the faith-based groups owing to the
fact that the government was no longer providing the services leaving over 350 women at risk of
attacks, rape, and deteriorating health concerns. The severe cuts on government funding
imperiled the homelessness program leading to reduced assistance and eventually a fall in the
assistive program. The program initiated by the faith-based institution provides nightly

transportation of homeless women from a central pick up point on Del Monte Avenue to
different organizations that provided means, shelter, and other supportive services such as legal
help, clothing, employment assistance, and training opportunities (Engel-Ruck 54). All these
contribute to the well-being of the homeless case in the region.
Support for the Initiative
The initiative by the faith-based support program is noble and goes a long way towards
changing the status and case of the homelessness in the county. The fact that the government
gave up or constantly reduced the amount of allocation to the homeless leaves them with no help
and thus the help by the faith-based team remains laudable (Toolis, and Hammack 15). As such,
there is the need for foster and include more advocacy efforts towards meeting the needs of the
growing numbers of homeless case (Hellegers 22). Moreover, a long-lasting solution would
include charity programs to build shelters on behalf of the women and secure training
opportunities for them to prepare them for the job market (Borg 1705). Such activities would
assist in reducing dependency while leaving the facility with manageable numbers.
Conclusion
Homelessness among the women is a critical issue that needs address and possible
solutions to ending the occurrence. In promoting harmonious living and mutual consciousness,
individuals need to coexist in solving the problems of the less privileged and contributing to
societal growth (Murphy and Tobin 267). The concerted efforts by the faith-based community
go a long way towards creating a harmonious society where the able stand in the gap for the
helpless in providing the basic needs of individuals. The government needs to include its efforts
to bolster that of the existing faith-based teams in yielding a positive experience among the
dwellers.

provide most if not all of the solution. Homelessness among women remains dangerous for
women given the exposure to risk and health complications they tag along. There is a need to
engage in proactive efforts towards assisting the homeless with basic needs and empowering
